is anyone but me excited for the domino?

Once they are around $150-$175 (or ideally less since it is, after all, a Taiwanese product) and readily available I will get one. So Spyderco, PLEASE don't be lame and randomly discontinue this thing.
But seriously, some of you knife-nerds are worse than the panic-buying bubbas who buy all the guns and ammo :p

Looks like mine will be here Friday. Just a shade under $200, which might seem high compared to say, a Sage I or Manix II, but it's still a good deal, IMHO.

-XHP steel, nothing to sneeze at
-Interesting, if not cool-looking glass fiber handle slab
-Ti RIL, with steel insert and over travel stop
-Bearing pivot
-Flipper and Spyder Hole action
-4-way clip
-Forward choil
-Nice spacers
-Jimping above and below blade

Seems to me this is pretty close to the knife a lot of people have been asking for for a long time.

(Oh, and if you can find a Sage II for $150 new...buy it!)

The Spyderco website and several online dealers say Carbon Fiber G-10 Laminate. Then, there are some dealers that say Glass Woven Carbon Fiber Laminate and others just Carbon Fiber Laminate.

Hopefully, someone from Spyderco can tell us exactly what it is.

Regardless, if it's anything like the scales on my Bradley which is said to be a Carbon Fiber G-10 Laminate it sure looks great and has just enough texture to assure a good grip without it being too "sticky".

Glass Weave is probably the texture of the carbon fiber
But I don't know for sure :)

Well, in the Spyderco Product Guide under Handle Materials there are these so it could be one of these, a mixture of these or something else:

PEEL-PLY CARBON FIBER A carbon-fiber-filled epoxy resin laminate that has a textured protective layer bonded to its surface during manufacturing. After the machining of handle scales, the protective layer is removed to reveal a non-slip, high-traction texture.

NISHIJIN GLASS FIBER A high-strength material similar to carbon fiber that replicates the dramatic decorative patterns of traditional Japanese nishijin woven textiles.

CARBON FIBER Graphite fibers (the size of a human hair) woven together then fused with epoxy resin. A lightweight material with a high level of tensile strength, it has a three dimensional appearance and is very costly to manufacture.

G-10 An epoxy-filled woven glass fiber that is rigid, impervious to temperature changes and chemicals and can be tinted into different colors. G-10 is an excellent knife handle material.

What is the big deal , it's way over priced and isn't even made in the us , drop the damn carbon fiber and titanium fetish every seems to have

The big deal is that it's awesome and the quality is flawless.

Pics aren't showing up for me but I have read reports that this thing is smaller than a Native so no, I'm not excited.

Lolz. You're right, only those knives with materials and features you personally approve of should be available.

It's a big knife world out there. Find something you like and stop sweating the ones you don't. Pretty simple.

Hrrmm. I think the Manix 2 pictured there looks to have a better blade to handle ratio...aesthetically anyway. Domino blade looks a little stubby for that handle but I'll reserve judgment until its in my hand. Definitely larger than a Native anyway.

I keep reading about the over travel stop, but I don't see it in any of the pictures. Where is it?

Could be wrong but I believe it's a part of the steel lock bar insert. In any case we'll find out tomorrow hopefully.

Look at the video at 32 seconds in where he points to it.

Thanks! So it does look like it's part of the lockbar or maybe part of the lockbar insert. I was expecting something similar the the stopper on Hinderer knives, or the Southard (Which I think did it in a pretty cool way).

Agreed, $210 is a fantastic price if this knife lives up to the standard set by the Southard. I would have liked to see them price it a little closer to the new ZT 0801 which is available for $190, I think they'd sell even more of them just out of principal if they could get them under the $200 mark, but in the end I think it will be well worth the money, whatever they end up going for.

I got mine for $196.

Its part of the lockbar insert. the insert is rather large and looks more like a liner inlaid into the lockbar. Very interesting design.

I dont see that happening unless your planning on hitting the used market. But even then the southard seems to keep its value relatively well. And honestly I hope the taiwan thing was a joke. I made the mistake of slamming spyderco for the cost of their products considering the southard was made in taiwan and as expensive as it is. But after owning one since they were released i can say its one of the best production folders Ive ever owned regardless of price. And that taiwan factory is putting out knives that rival most usa based factories. Even putting some of them to downright shame.

Can I ask why you feel its overpriced? And what does it not being made in the USA matter if anything? Its amazing people get so hung up on the country of origin when the quality actually surpasses many USA factories. If the knife was made in the USA but didnt have as good of fit and finish you you feel the knife was worth every penny?

It looks like the pivot is set farther back in the handle giving the illusion that the handle is bigger. The domino has a smaller blade but more cutting edge than the manix.

I'm jealous that all of you guys were on preorder lists. This one will have to go to my 3 month list for the time being. I imagine they are going to be hard to come by for a few months just as the Southard current is.

Also, I absolutely love all of my Spyderco knives from the Taiwan factory. They are superb in every way and rival the Fit and Finish of "midtech" knives. I've yet to find one blemish or off center blade from all of the ones I've owned or handled. I hope that Spyderco will continue to use them to produce their premium folders.

Back on track: Looking forward to getting the Domino in the near future.
