Is balance in a knife important to you?

I love the balance on my Socom elite. But I like to choke up on my blades. The balance feels right on my index finger, where it should be.

any tool of any type has its own balance point. it's up to the user to use it to their advantage. it never mattered to me, but everyone is entitled to their own preferences.

I want a smaller knife, like a hunter to be decidedly handle heavy.
This allows me to use my thumb and index finger to pick up or move something without having to put the knife down.
The knife will sit on the rear three fingers and not want to tip forward.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with the people saying that in lower weight blades like edc folders balance isn't THAT much of an issue. It's certainly a vastly more important thing in a sword than it is in a small folder. That said, to me, it's not like it's no factor at all. The Socom Elite that got me to post this thread is now sitting in a cabinet as a display piece. I just can't get used to how off it feels in hand. Blade heavy should be reserved for chopping tools, not pocket knives. Luckily most are either balanced on the index choil or slightly handle heavy, which is how it should be. You want a perfect 50/50 in a standard grip or most of the weight in your palm for better precision in what ever your doing. The further you move weight upward and away from your grip, the more unwieldy objects become, that goes for knives too.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but I once had owned a BM mini griptilian and had to get rid of it. The handle scales looked nice and thick but, once in hand, it felt too light and hollow for how big it appeared. I don't recall if the balance was truly off or it was only a mental thing at that point for me. Anyhow, yeah, balance is a must.

balance is an overly subjective word for what we're talking about here, imo. I prefer the term 'weight distribution' when I think about the utility of a knife

I bought and got rid of a mini soccom for exactly that reason - balance just felt wrong
