Is benchmade going to answer to spyderco's s110v military?

Why would they need to make a 1:1 reaction to individual product releases from other companies?

The steel BM is using right now is fine. M390, 20V, S30V, D2, S90V, M4, 154cm.......why add more?

710 in M390 Knifeworks exclusive. Or how about the 810 Contego in M4? Axis lock. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

BM doesn't have to because i'm a spydey fan, and i'm not likely to buy the s110v. i have enough trouble sharpening my s30v blades, what more for that blanketty-blank-blank s110V?

The new Griptilian series in CMP-20CV and G10 scales is more my taste. I had a PM2 and sold it. I'm left handed and could never get used to the compression lock.

I have two Manix 2s and the Native 5 in S110V. The Griptilian 555-1 is in the mail. So we'll see.

about m4 - i really don't like that coating not a bit.

the problem for me that i don't like that blue handle, i will tell the main problem below...

no need, just it looks good

okay, maybe it would be better to ask right here then.
IS D2 a choice for edc at all? i mean, all those hard-use tests one can find on vininull's channel show d2 as an unbeatable cut-the-wall-and-get-out adamantium among most popular widely spreaded steels, which can chop just about anything, but doesn't it mean it can't be as good as others, i mean it can't be best at everything at the same time! and it rusts as m4, i had pvd coated d2 blade as additional knife, i used it for cases where you know you will hit some metal or stone with edge, getting it damaged. and pvd just couldn't help with that rust under it.

i mean, i see it on additional thick blade, would be cool to have it on smf or xm18 or similar, with thick tip and all. but the main blade from the same d2?!

D2 doesn't readily rust. It takes on a bit of grey patina, but that's about it. It most definitely does not rust like a steel with more carbon in it. Not at all. It's not called a "semi-stainless" for no reason.

The direct competitor for the military back in the day was the 710. I had both, loved both. I don't think BM will start using another steel just to compete with Spyderco. There's nothing wrong with what they are already using.

I live mere feet from the ocean and all of my D2 blades look as good as the day I got them. No rust or discoloration at all.

I'm with most everyone else on this no need for benchmade to change (except for their edge geometry) if anything you could say the 20cv gip is kind of an answer to the blurple pm2. I was not totally crazy about either line up for 2016 except for the crooked river which I love.

You do know d2 has a higher carbon content than most high carbon steels right?

Yep. It's still a semi-stainless tool steel. All the other stuff in the mix keeps it from rusting like a simple carbon steel.

Does it really matter to the consumer? Personally, I don't think it does, and I think that Benchmade probably feels the same way. Sure the PM2 is a great knife. But so is the Grip. Why do you need to try to improve on something that's already a success?

It's interesting how super steels are like cell phones. Once you think you bought the best, a "better" one comes out in a week :p

Really though, is this about performance or is it a fad? I've been abusing my 154cm bm and it just wont quit truckin.

Did they make an announcement or something?
like, 710 s110v?

They should respond with a 154 cpm s220v high carbon stainless Damascus with an s110v steel handle. They probably won't respond to it. Example. I don't see any vg10 griptilians

Honestly, I would just like to see either company come out with some larger sheepsfoot and wharncliffe blades, even if they crank 'em out in 154CM and S30V. Blade steel one-upsmanship gets old fast. Call me when they're making stuff in 125V and outsourcing the heat treat to BOS.
