Is Elmax the new INFI 2.0?

I'll wait for the last word... from Jerry.
I mean Jennifer.

At last, True wisdom has prevailed..we can guess all we want, but a guess is still a guess .
The more I think about this..as awesome as his Elmax blade is, it would appear to be primarily focused toward pure cutlery applications, in much the same way that other kitchen cutlery is, except on really good roids, I mean Cryo.. ;)..
As long expected as a folder offering has been, I would be a little surprised to see him use anything that was limited to one specific application, but then again..I'm typically wrong when I'm not right.

Not saying Elmax is not more than a pure cutter, just frankly don't know (yet)..but he did call it a steak knife for a reason.

The ever speculating one,

Seth

Lycosa,

I hope you get a smirk out of this, like you've given me over the last couple of posts you've made..
My Dad waited to give me the greatest advice concerning marriage after our honeymoon..
He said calmly, and almost in a whisper.."Son, there is something important I need to tell you about marriage...are you listening?"..I attentively responded .."Yes, Sir."
"Good." he said, and then I saw in his eyes a piercing, yet consoling look as he continued.."Son, you will never win an argument with your Wife...and if by chance you think you do, you'll regret it." :D

My Father is a very wise man.

Lycosa,

Well said, very well said.

Sounds very similar to the advice my dad gave me. He sat me down and said "Boy I am going to tell you how to have a successful marriage. You need to learn one phase and learn it well. Whenever you wife asks you to do something you response always needs to be yes dear."

That advice is working for me so far coming up on 7 years this January and my parents will hit 48 years this year.

Cool, Pat!!

Congrats to your Family! My parents are closing in on 44 years, and Ang and I are (by the grace of God) just shy of 18..
It's give and take to make it work...but sure is worth it. :)

Is this a knife forum, or did it just deteriorate rapidly??
Elmax, Elmax..let's talk about Elmax... :D :p :D lol...I love it here..sorry for derailing us off topic!!

Barrabas- Smirking I am. Thanks! And, thank Dad.

o, I do have one Elmax knife, not a Busse with Elmax, but have not used it yet.

I have been EDCing a knife that has an ElMax blade for the last three years

I'm very impressed with it

I have used ELMAX and I have to say it chips a lot. I'm not sure if it was due to overheating the edge from the manufacture but I have encountered multiple chips along the edge. I hope it's not the "new" infi.

Interesting observation Rob, from its composition I would have expected it to be very stainless. I haven't personally experienced it with my ELMAX but I have never left it wet.

Corrosion resistance is affected by the way steel is tempered. Tempering it at a high temperature pulls more of the chromium out of solution and causes the formation of more carbides. As a result corrosion resistance can suffer.

I can't say that's the case here, but just saying there's at least one possible way that corrosion resistance can vary with the same steel.

KniferMan,

Concerning the chipping you have encountered on Elmax, may I ask if this from Busse, or another manufacturer?

I hope it's not the "new" infi.

The more I think about this, I'm now convinced this is not the new INFI..as INFI has set the standard in the knife industry for "hard use" knives, and..to put a "New" or a "2.0" etc. on something would imply that it does at least as well as the predecessor in the areas it has previously excelled in..+ it would then have to improve it..or a company would risk their reputation..Jerry & Team have worked hard to gain their reputation for the toughest knives in the world...Elmax, from a Busse perspective has thus far been termed a "Steak Knife", which from all indication is a steel designed for unrivalled excellence in pure cutlery applications; we'd probably be a little wiser not to add more to that, than what the name implies..(myself included) ;).

When "The New" INFI is available..we will have no doubt what it is; to much is at risk for it to be ambiguous.

Just an update...KniferMan let me know that the blade chipping he encountered with Elmax was not a Busse.

Elmax is NOT the new INFI nor INFI 2.0.

It's just a new steel that we decided to have some fun with that makes for a really good slicer.

I wouldn't beat on it though....Heavy impact or even light prying is not its game.

Let's Drink!!!

Jerry, thanks for commenting. I think we are all looking forward to this Steak Knife. A skinny slicer with amazing edge holding. What's not to love?

When will you be showing us some genuine INFI 2.0?

I heard its coming on the folder.

:p:D

The analogy is not apt here. New Coke replaced Diet Coke, and that was a disaster. It does not appear that Elmax is replacing INFI, but supplementing it in the product line. A new flavor, if you will.

You must not remember 1985 as well as Rolf and I :p

It had nothing to do with Diet Coke.
When Coke tried to change their formula it caused a huge ruckus here in the deep south :D

They would've never changed it back if not for the South East raising cain.

AND Thank you SIR for all that Cain Raising....I had to use a kitty litter box to get that awful taste off my tongue!!!
