I've tried twice to place an order via email, with no reply, and finally called this afternoon, only to get a recording saying

"the party you are calling is not accepting calls at this time."

whassup?

I'm starting to wonder the same thing.

I ordered one of his knives but with a different color micarta handle. It has been two months and he has not gotten it yet. I've asked a few times. I don't know much about micarta but how difficult can it be to get?

I know his computer crashed a while ago but hasn't he gotten it fixed yet?

Same thing happened to me. I posted a similiar topic last week. Apparantly their computer went down and if you placed and order via email before September 16th you'll have to place it again. I had tried ordering with no results for a few weeks, after I found this out I re-emailed them and recieved a conformation within hours. Give it another shot and see what happens.

Hey guys, use this email address:

livesayn@tcainternet.com

Newt's been having serious problems with internet servers and most of the email that went to the old address is lost somewhere in cyberspace.

Don't know about the phone problem though, just talked with Newt yesterday and there didn't seem to be a problem. If you keep having problems, drop me an email and I'll make sure he gets it. - Jeff

I'm going to send him an email to the address listed above and see what happens.

Thanks Jeff-

I already tried at that address too; I'll keep trying the phone tomorrow.

I understand some people are having trouble reaching WKC, Inc., Newt Livesay Custom Knives. Every day our phones, and FAX machine rings off the wall. Some 38 plus thousand people have accessed our web site in less than one year. Since Monday the 4th of October we have received 212 e-mails of this post, and the telephone log shows that 126 customers have ordered, inquired, or just called to talk with us as of this post. on Thursday the 7th. Now after saying all of this let me explane something else.
[this post....above] "I've tried twice to place an order via email, with no reply, and finally called this afternoon, only

WELL "WHASSUP" is that if you dial the wrong number you will get this message maybe! If you call our office you will not get this message unless GTE is dead! If you have call blocker or some other funky non-listing device on your phone our company phones will not except a call from it. Our server for the internet is TCA Internet of Tyler Texas. These people have been having a world of problems with such things as a "AT&T" backhoe cutting TCA's main phone lines into this week. Although I have a cable modem this still causes problems with our internet services. A few weeks ago our main frame crashed in the office. I lost all e-mail {customer} address, mail, etc., and the services with the following addresses.
Newt@Livesay.com, livesayn@tcac.net, and nlivesay@juno.com. The only e-mail that we have back up and running as of this week is a new address that will replace the old TCA address. E-mail us at livesayn@tcainternet.com We know this works for I have received 43 e-mails today along. Our office hours are 0900-1600 CENTRAL TIME ZONE, M-F, and a recorded answer service catches all calls after these hours .....our FAX is a 24 hour 7 day a week service.
We also can be reached via upteen dozens of carriers services at 202 Raines Rd., Siloam SPrings, AR 72761

Hey Newt, let me know if you still want that forum, maybe we can save you 212 emails next time...

Anyhow, I already emailed Jeff, but wanted to make sure you knew as well...

Newt-

Thanks for the prompt response. I believe one of my emails was lost in your AT&T problem, and the other one - who knows? Just gremlins, I suppose.

I called the phone # listed on your website today four times, and the recording didn't tell me to unblock my call blocking, it told me 'the party isn't accepting calls at this time.' I'd check with your phone carrier to see if this is truly the message they wish to convey, or if there's some error on their part.

That's a world of difference to me. If it had asked me to unblock, I would have unblocked (but have strong feelings about being forced to reveal my # or go through additional steps to place a phone call to spend money).

I'll try again at the alternative email address later tonight.

That said:

1) I don't consider call blocking 'funky,' I consider it essential.
2) I wanted to place the order quickly and easily. I'm a child of the internet, and mailing a letter when I can place the order immediately is my preferred mode of business.
3) You should perhaps have the defective email addresses removed from your website to lessen confusion. If you're receiving that many hits, than others are certainly having the same difficulty that I am; not everyone reads these forums to learn what address is valid and which isn't.

Im not trying to start any bad blood here...but some of you guys ought to consider laying off of Newt and the other makers just a bit. These guys are very talented and their products are in high demand. I realize customer service is important..but Newt and the other makers are trying to turn out good products, manage a business, and keep the public (like us) informed thats a pretty tall order for anyone to handle. I think all us KnifeKnuts need to keep in mind when ordering from specialty knife makers that we aren't dealing w/ Big Production Companies like Benchmade or Coldsteel. Guys like Mr. Livesay are doing the best they can w/ the resources they have and the least we could do is be patient.

Since the subject of a Livesay Forum was brought up again I thought I might pass this on: http://server3.ezboard.com/blivesayknives

It's been up since the SOF show and Newt has been responding to questions there on a pretty regular basis. It's a shame that it is not under BF where more people could become aware of it.

I'm not sure what there is to 'lay off' from. I don't think it's inappropriate to ask why my emails are unanswered and my phone calls can't go through. I re-read my note, and don't see anything angry, curt or upset about it.

I do think Newt came in a little strong on the rebound there, but this medium tends to make things look stronger than they were meant to be.

I too, am running a growing, understaffed, overwhelmed business, and occasionally don't return customer's emails, etc. I respond to or process over 400 emails every day, and our website takes 80,000 hits a month. I'm quite sympathetic to the problems inherent with good products and high growth rates, that's why I was trying to be as pleasant as I could be... if I ruffled feathers, it wasn't meant that way. I'm just getting a bit weary of trying so hard to spend my money <g>.

If the products weren't good, then I wouldn't be trying.

Eric

And I sent a *very* polite note with my fourth attempt at ordering, to the email address Newt provided, within half an hour of his post last night.

Eric R- I wasn't trying to imply that you specifically had a poor attitude or were impatient. I just wanted to point out some of the factors that a small business owner must deal w/, apparently you are already well aquanted w/ those factors. My intent was to suggest that we could all stand to "lay off" alittle and keep in mind what the Makers are up against. No offense intended to any parties and I sincerely hope none was taken!

umm....guys...i believe i can shed some light on this. I talked to newt a few days ago and they were at s.o.f convention a few weeks ago and are now working overtime to make a ton a knifes before a certain time. this may be part of the reason you haven't been able to reach him

I just ordered an ICU from Newt today and got a prompt confirmation from him, so all seems well at Livesay Knives......

That's interesting.

I emailed my order (the 4th attempt) to the email address Newt provided in this very forum, and have yet to receive a reply to that one either. In addition I'm still unable to get a call placed through to their number, even after I turn off my caller ID blocking. Still getting that recording telling me that 'the party you're calling isn't accepting calls at this time.' I spent half an hour with a Pac Bell/AT&T operator who couldn't get me through either.

Decided to order from a dealer instead of the factory, but Wicked's dealer page was inop or not up.

Strikes me odd that a MFR or other sales group would want to make their customers work so hard to place an order, but to each their own. I guess I don't want my 4 Livesay knives that badly after all. I've invested more than a reasonable amount of time in trying to make contact with them, and received nothing but a snappy note in this forum in return, essentially accusing me of being to dumb to figure it out - I mean geez, after email and the phone don't work, I think any customer would be pleased to print something out and try to fax it, or put the order in the mail...

There are plenty of mfr's out there with high quality products. Can't say I didn't try. I know this reads snappy and harsh - it's beena long weekend, I'm tired, and tired of trying to spend my money. I'll give it to someone who wants it more.

That's odd...I just talked with Newt, and also talked with him 2 other times since last Thursday. Once he called me and 2 times I've called him.

Phone line works for me at his advertised number of 501-549-3356

Web site works for me at http://members.tripod.com/~Newt_Livesay/index.html

Forum's operational at http://server3.ezboard.com/blivesayknives

And just receievd an email message 30 minutes ago from livesayn@tcainternet.com concerning the RTAK Jr. project.

Don't know what's going on or why you're having problems. Maybe he just don't like you - just kidding.

Jeff-

No offense taken, and I'm sure it's isolated (or maybe it's my breath) - obviously no one runs their business that poorly, particularly if they want to stay in business long.

<rant-o-meter on full>

I don't mean it as a general indictment of Newt or Wicked - and the website works just fine - that's how I keep finding the dysfunctional email addresses and phone numbers (as well as pictures of all the delectable knives I'm trying to purchase). I have been able to hit their forum perfectly well also - I just think if it *really* mattered he would have responded to me via email by now, instead of, or in addition to, posting his reply on this board.

I run my business by breaking my back to make customers happy, no matter what it takes. I have personally delivered products locally after the USPS dropped the ball; I personally call every unhappy customer to see what I can do to make their experience with us more satisfying. Our rule is simple: no one goes away unhappy, even if it means we lose money on the deal. We have more than once simply given product away, or credited people their entire purchase price, just to make the transaction fair. Period. Full stop.

I get mighty disappointed then when companies with sterling reps like Wicked would rather blame me for not working hard enough to reach them, instead of simply asking the core question: "What will it take to make this a satisfying transaction for you?"

<rant-o-meter now on empty>

Hi Eric,

I was just joking with you on the not liking you part.

I don't speak for Newt and was just passing on the info I had about what was operational for me.

I don't understand the phone call thing because it's working for me. That's weird. I could understand if you still had your caller id block in place.

Like Newt, I don't accept any call either from folks who block their number. I sort of figure if it's important enough they will release the call block long enough to call me. The main reason I use the call block blocker is to keep down marketing calls and so I can screen when necessary...but even the marketing people have gotten smart and now use lines that come up 'unknown number.'

Oh well, sorry things didn't work out for you. - Jeff
