Is it a 2 Dot 110...

I too think it is a weld job. my question not being versed the finer details of welding is how strong could this weld be?

that probably wouldn't be as big a deal as getting the temper back properly.

naw ... keep some bloke from spending his FRNotes on what he thought was a factory knife
besides it did not comply with fleebay listing policy in that
it was not a factory knife nor a customized knife lol ..
but most likely he looked here and figured the gig was up !
lol

I didn't bid on it and wasn't planning to bid on it, but I sure hated to see it taken down off the auction site.
I was more interested to see what it would end up selling for. I believe it was already over $70.00 and I had a feeling it would have gone higher.

Here is the description below..... referencing welding etc....

---------------------------

RARE BUCK 110 U.S.A.(2 DOTS) LOCKBACK FOLDING KNIFE WITH UNUSUAL BLADE, c. 1978-82,*

5” KNIFE, single 3 ¾” upswept severe clip 440-C stainless steel blade, with saber and hollow grind, with satin finish, with no nail mark. The blade has been lightly polished.* This blade is about 1 1/8” deep at the clip.* We have never seen a deep clip blade on the 110 before. This blade is the right blade for the knife and is definitely original. The handle has coco bolo or other hardwood, fastened by three (3) brass pins and one (1) steel pin, over brass liners.* Brass bolsters, front bolster is like the bolster on the model 112, with integral liners, top and bottom, with top enlarged and the bottom curved, with rear top lock. The knife does not look like it has been pieced together, it appears that this is the way it came from the factory, it does not look welded, it appears to be original.*

This is Buck’s most famous knife. We have found no information on this blade style for this model.*

They now address the weld theory and claim it has not been welded or pieced together and it is original. I loved to know JH's opinion on this.

I asked the seller, last week, to allow me to inspect the target scimitar-bladed 110 but haven't heard back. Puzzling to me. The seller is not very far away from my location so visiting would be possible, even today, but I consider it ominous that I haven't had the courtesy of a reply and in addition to the previous withdrawal of the item and re-listing I am concerned. However, one of the bonuses of selling on the internet is that looky lews don't track mud into your space so most online sellers, IMHO, probably wouldn't embrace a prospective customer's personal appearance.

Are they not a brick & mortar? If so walk in and ask to see it, would love to hear that excuse. Has anyone checked with Buck for info on the possibility this is an original?
FYI - saw the bidding this morning at $100 and climbing.

I can find no evidence of the existence of a store. The website gives a mailing address and phone number. What leads you to believe that there is a store you can visit?

I didn't know just was asking. If this is just a mail order joint or some guy claiming to be a knife retailer I'd run like the wind. Theres a big difference between a guy trying to sell a knife and a business that is suppose to be experts on knives. I'm actually surprised with with all this hub bub about this knife a legit business would risk its rep. Makes it feel even more like a mail order want a be.

I heard from the seller: "We found out information regarding this knife. We ended the auction and are going to re-list it with the additional information. We talked with Buck. It is from the Buck archives - a Buck sample knife marrying the 110, 112 and 103 skinner all in one knife."

I hope that this helps.

Well, the moral of this story is that you don't talk about your finds on the Bay until AFTER you own them..... :p
