Is it ever ok to carry outside the pocket?...with clip?

Anyone carrying a knife in such a fashion would be well-served by a belt sheath, methinks. In that situation, I'd probably just opt for a sheathed fixed blade - I see the folding nature of folding knives as a tradeoff for concealment and compactness. If you're carrying it outside the pocket, then... Not many benefits to carrying a folder.

That chick on the Walking Dead always had her spyderco clipped like that. It always bugged me.

I suppose it is "okay," in the sense that it doesn't harm anyone. However, it seems kind of dumb.

Foolish idea in my mind. Plus, I think it looks kind of stupid to have a knife hanging on you. Plus as before stated, it would be much easier to lose.

Reminds me of old people with dementia who wear their underwear over their pants.

Never. Either inside the right pants pocket or in the case of my OTF, a cordura belt sheath.

I'm not Lori Grimes and I'm fairly certain I'm not an idiot and I have no desire to advertise what knife I'm carrying, but that's how I've been carrying my Rat II lately 'cause it just doesn't fit in my shallow pockets and I got tired of not being able to carry my folders anymore. As for losing it, I'm constantly checking for it, but I was doing that when I could still put them *in* my pocket, too, same as I was frequently checking for my gun when I was carrying that.

In a word..... NO...

This. It is like keeping the tags on all your clothes, hats, shoes, electronics, etc.

It serves only two purposes.....advertising your insane need to have everyone "SEE" what you are carrying, and loosing your knife.

Wow, some of you guys seem to have some pretty strong feelings about other people carrying their knives clipped to the outside of their pocket.

Let's see, it's been described as "foolish", "dumb", "insane", and those who do it have been called "idiots", all based on how they choose to carry a knife.

Personally, rather than criticizing them, I would be encouraged by the fact that other people were carrying knives, period. I regard any law-abiding person who carries a knife, and handles it responsibly, as a form of "brother", because they are someone who, like me, recognizes the value of carrying a knife. I'd much rather encounter people who carry folders clipped outside their pockets, and who support our right to carry knives, than to encounter people who are against carrying knives altogether.

As always, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it seems that in every "hobby", whether it's cars, or motorcycles, or guns, or knives, there are always people who look for reasons to put other people down within that "hobby".

I would never carry a folder clipped to the outside of my pocket, but neither would I criticize others and call them dumb, or stupid, or an idiot simply because they choose to carry their knives differently than I do.

Some people on this forum carry knives in ways that I disagree with, but I wouldn't question or insult their inteligence. Instead I would simply say- that's not for me, but to each their own.

They won't be carrying one for long if it's clipped to the outside of their pocket. ;)

Exactly, with a knife clipped to them :D that's probably going to be me in a couple of years all dressed up for a night on the town.

I don't know why but I'd like to add this
