Is it just me or Cold Steel knives are general either low quality or overpriced ?

Not anymore but I've owned two.

Ok, did you check for any ever so slightly play up and down ? I guess this is normal. Mine has this. However it's not from poor liner lock tolerance, but it seems to be from pivot screw if that makes sense...

I don't think AUS8 is as good as lot of other steels but it's adequate.

No none of mine had any such play at all from Cold Steel. I've seen plenty of play from other companies knives though including Spyderco in knives I owned, both lock back and liner lock. I've seen play in the pivot before but if its the blade it is usually the size of the hole in the blade compared to the actual size of the pin or barrel used.

Anyway, if its new send it back to get another one.

Love cold steel knives, they are good quality for a good price and lots of fun and practical designs.

Cold Steel knives are neither low quality, nor overpriced; they are just over hyped.

The quality of all the CS knives I have or have had is fine to very good. Good to excellent fit and finish. Interesting, sometime innovative, designs.

Worth the price? That's harder and kind of subjective. In general, I think they are some what overpriced, but we can say that abouit a lot of very popular brands.

Mixed in their line always seem to be items priced spot on the mark.

Some of the "customs" seem way over priced, but that may just be they are not my cup of tea.
Always liked the look of the Talwar, but the price was just too high. Recently picked it up from the closeout sale and am very happy with it. Certainly worth what I paid, but not worth what was originally asked for it.

Over Marketed...which adds to the cost. They should be a little cheaper for certain models but others I believe are priced fair. Their steel doesn't warrant the higher price tag on certain models, their grip/handle are nice but not superior. I think they make a good knife but not a top-tier like they price some of them. I like the Master Hunter quite a bit and it really isnt too expensive.

2 Zytel 6" Ti-Lites, 1 4" Titanium Ti-Lite, no play at all in these three knives. Also have the Rajah 2, CV SRK, 2 of the little beavertail fixed blades, new and old pocketbushman. Fit and finish has been excellent across the board. I believe you would need a hammer to break the Rajah 2 :) Rajah 1 on it's way.

Chip, I have bought a boatload of Cold Steel from Jay, as well as a fair number of Emersons and Spyderco knives. In practical, everyday use, I'll put a CS knife up against the other two. The CS fit and finish is very good, their designs are excellent and their steel preparation is excellent as well. CS knives are found at fair market value for the most part, although some are way outside my pay grade.

If you doubt any of the above, try an American Lawman and give us your impressions.

I'm glad you commented. The way you put it causes me to consider your opinion. I'll probably get a lawman indeed

Not even 1/32'' ? Mine has about that, seriously. I'm asking you since I think some people wouldn't consider 1/32'' as being blade play.

Just out of curiosity, would you guys consider CS as putting out better knives (so far as overall quality) as SOG ?

I feel that I have always gotten my monies worth with their producst, The quality has maybe slipped a little with the stinking economy.
