Is it just me or does it make you mad too?

When somebody asks to borrow a knife, I always ask what for? I have a Vic Midnight Manager that I often use for grooming myself, so he will get that instead of my folder.

I really don't like handing out my knives because I'm worried that someone will recognize the brand and know exactly how many Benjamins I dropped on it. Even though if they know the brand, they would most likely be down with the sickness.

Whenever someone says "Nice knife, can I see it?" to me, I usually look them straight in the eye, and say the following: "If you can hand me something of yours worth $400, then yes."

That usually prevents them pestering me much further. They're too busy wrapping their heads around the idea of a knife that costs more than $50.

Which reminds me, one time I was trying to start up a hookah, and I used my Sebenza to poke holes for the tin foil. My hands were sticky from the tobacco, so I put the Sebenza down and walked into the kitchen to rinse them off. Came back and a girl was using the edge to scrape out embers from the bowl.

I almost cried.

if this happens to you enough to make a post about it you may want to reconsider who you hang around...

:DNormally I'm surrounded by what it's called "sheeple" that wouldn't ask for a knife (of any kind), for anything, so, I don't have this problem.:D

I really don't know anyone, except some chef's I've worked with, that are knife people. Most average people see them as tools. Educated, smart, dumb, or whatever, they still used knives in unusual ways, or at least are bad for the edges. The same people don't know what a sharp knife is.

True that.

That is in poor taste but I hate it when they ask to hold a knife then run their finger along the blade and bleed all over my knife.

Then look at you as if it were your fault?

Whatever yhe reason, you have your knife out and another comments on 'Nice knife can i see it?' And after a quick look they use it to clean out under their fingernails!
Cant explain why but it makes me mad as hell and that person never gets to hold another kmife of mine. Is that me only or is that very rude?

Savages!

I'd be pretty upset because I regularly use my EDC for food chores. It would still be pretty gross for me even if I washed my knife.

I learned long ago to never let anyone, I don't trust with my higher dollar blades handle them. I avoid letting them even see them, if I think they will start in wanting to play with one of them and wind up probably doing something that would have me upset.

I have never had it happen to me. I have done it a few times. It's gross, I don't want to clean my nails with my knife :D

Cleaning/trimming their toenails is where I draw the line. Even SS & toejam... yuck-o! Now, that will make patina...

You know what is rude? Someone picking up your folder and flipping it - nearly as bad as flipping one of my S&W revolvers closed. I can go ballistic... even nuclear!

Stainz

Most of my friends are knife people, and if the need to borrow a knife they know that they will catch crap for not having theirs, but I let them borrow it. If they are non-knife people and the ask, I will ask what they need it for and if the do need a knife, I tend to do the cutting for them so they don't hurt themselves.

Never happened with me. I am very selective, who I let to borrow my knives.
I agree, this is very rude.

Sounds like your friends need some Irish Spring and a good pair of nail clippers. I have never had this happen.
