Is it just me or is Benchmade really falling behind.

the crooked river and Anthem seem pretty nice.
But do they take price into this?

i also don't understand why people like the bugout so much.
Possibly because it bucks the trend of heavy overbuilt knives, has a well proven mechanism, and has a minimalist styling without being just another slab-sider.

950 - only thing I didn't like about this one was the thumb studs. They always got caught in the pocket when trying to take out. Everything else about it was great though.
If you call and ask for the thumbstuds for a 810 or 940, they will send them to you. Those don't stick out as far.

I didn't either until I held it in my hand. It is a very good knife!

And if you read the Instagram comments...

You get what? Piles of opinion, about other people's opinion, about a published opinion.
Either way, the OP's thesis of benchmade falling behind doesn't seem to hold water. Of course you could pick and choose each factor to compare, but its a false dichotomy. Even just comparing them to Spyderco, they have a different business model, let alone try to compare them to KAI or anyone else for that matter.

Whatever you say. We all say these things based on what we've bought. So it's def not false or made up. And that's only one source. I've seen countless vids and reviews that say Similar stuff about there quality and models.

I love the benchmade heat treatment. But it's ruined when they sharpen them. Either uneven bevels or burnt edges. Then when you try and fix it, you have to waste so much metal and maybe even have to make a larger choil. Axis lock is nice for single hand operation and keeping fingers out the way but the lock has blade play issues both up and down and or side to side. Not to mention the way they make them it often never comes centered. Then on top of that quality of the scales and hardware can be iffy. And action is debatable from box to box. A guy on YouTube tried 30 boxes to actually find a good one. And on top of that vendors know how bad it is because they offer to inspect them if you ask before shipping them.

So your preaching but I've never seen more than a few good benchmades. And I have seen one or two good ones that my buddy got. If they gonna charge the high price they do and still provide the piss poor quality we all seen, then Ima avoid them and make sure I give advice to those looking to have them inspected before shipping or buy in a store to inspect personally.

I have some knives like this that if I really try I can wave using the thumbstuds.

The 940 thumbstuds fit perfectly in the hole in the Spyderco Pingo. They screw right together with no looseness.

So as soon as its on the internet, it must be true? I own two benchmades, a 550hg, and rescue5. Both have been great. My wife has a fixed-grip that she enjoys, and I never have trouble with it. So I have an N of 3. I'm not however convinced we've all seen the so called poor quality. I think a lot of folks have a value equation in their head that might not be accurate, and all I'm getting from them is their opinion. Do they think a knife is worth x. Well, is X what they net at work in 5 hours or 15, or 2? I don't know, so I don't know what they think is expensive.

I've found that very often "common knowledge" is just not true. I'm not saying benchmade has never had a QC problem, or that maybe their tolerance is not what a collector would like, but you are painting them like they are suddenly frost cutlery or something. How many bad benchmades have you held in your hand? I just had a look and in the first few pages, there are a couple of QC related threads, one which was sorted right away, and the others had no useful info in which to evaluate the condition of the knife concerned. So if you have primary sources to work from, then share, but hearsay just muddies up the conversation and doesn't help anyone. I'm willing to be convinced, but I've not seen anything by way of objective fact to convince me.

Maybe its just me but a knife under 80 grams is just a no go, and preferably 100+.

I really don't ger why you'd make a knife soo much weaker to lose 10 grams.

Axis lock is great though, best lock for playing with your knives for sure.

Crooked River arrived yesterday. Sharp with even grinds, centered and no blade play.

This makes the 6th Benchmade I've bought in the last few months that has had 0 issues.

Did you handle it firsthand in store before you bought it or did you have it hand selected from the online shop you purchased it from?

You must be lying. Every person on this forum knows every Benchmade ever produced in the last few years is horrid quality

Based on this thread, the amount of threads on this topic, etc. you'd think so.

I'm curious if Spyderco will see an increase in these types of threads since they are having a price increase and MAP will go from 40% off of MSRP to 35% off.
