Is it made from Infi?

Just saw an adv where the question was asked and I thought, this is so true now. Now you have to state if the modern busse you are selling is made from INFI or SR101. It is no longer obvious. I have seen a bunch of the new DTBM's in SR101 being sold without saying what they are in the advert. 10 years down the road when these knives have been made satin and no longer have id marks this will lead to problems. The DTBM has no outward signs of it being one steel or the other. This is not the only one. I do consider this an unforeseen problem down the road. Not for me as I am not buying any of the two steel knives unless they are Satin LE's. What do you guys think.

Is the Pork Shank made from Infi?

If I was stripping an infi blade now I'd acid etch the busse logo to differentiate it from battle grade models.

Can definitely for see some problems-all the new people should become familiar with the Busse Collector Webpage-It has a pretty comprehensive listing of the Majority of Infi blades produced as well as some of the newer offering's in Sr-101

I agree, Cobalt. While it may be a matter of routine for people like us (Busse users, collectors, all manner of Hogs and Piglets and so on), a person unfamiliar with Jerry's product offerings--especially since the launch of Battle Grade and O2W--could easily make an error in identification.

I like the "Busse Battle Grade" logo/mark and think that's a good identifier like on my o2w TGBG...with the stripping and sanding/polishing issue, perhaps Jerry could stamp the pommel or some other inconspicuous place on the blade with "BG," or "SR." Maybe similar to how some makers denote steel type by stamping "CPM 3V" for example on the spine. I would not care at all if my o2w SR blades were marked in this fashion.

As mentioned above, etching could work too

The DT BM has only been released in SR101 as of right now, so you'll not have to worry about buying an INFI one of those.

The other "two steel" knives all have been quite easy to differentiate by eye, to me any way. There is usually a change in blade profile, or slight changes in handle shape. Look at the difference in shape of the AD vs MaxDuty vs the BG AD, or even the original D2 Vex vs the SR101 versions. I do believe that Jerry had mentioned that there would be a way to tell them apart even if both were stripped and satined with the size of the talon holes. The BG have bigger holes, I believe (I don't have any BG myself), as no one would devalue an INFI blade by making the holes bigger to imitate a BG knife.

good observation, Tyrade

regarding the tglb and tgbg as two nice examples, the differences are obvious. Hollow grind vs. saber grind is easy to distinguish. Also the guards and choils are slightly different. (I know everyone here knows all this; I'm just explaining it for a new user/buyer:D)

Good thread! As a sheath maker I've thought about this a lot. So far every knife sporting both steels have been different enough for a side by side obvious difference, except the TG. Sitting by themselves, with the logo removed I'd be hard pressed to tell

One particular concern is the WTF, are there differences in the BG and INFI versions? Would they fit the same sheath? Would one be able to tell the difference in a picture if the BG was stripped and satin finished?

I have been thinking the same thing. Already lots of sellers on eBay selling the Team Geminis with little mention of which steel is used. If you are uneducated you are going to learn the hard way. Especially once the stripped blades become more common.

when the Ash 1 Battle Grade was released I recall a thread where Jerry had just announced the knife an I think it was Garth that asked how they will know the difference down there road... Jerry said the holes in the rivets will be a different size for the (sr101 Battle Grade) series.

I am pretty sure the CS WTF is thicker stock than the BG WTF

Excellent info
Do you have the sizes for INFI and SR101 ?

Not true. There has been a bunch of releases that are both steels with little differentiation. Maybe not the dtbm but if someone thinks a bm comes only in infi they are now mistaken.

Think the battle grade should have bigger talon holes. A lot bigger. Noticeable with the eye.just my .02

Think of it this way. 10 years from now if there is a whole new group of people, with little documentation, people will be wondering like we do today with the SHSHII, "oh is it A2 or INFI?"

Good observation, Cobalt.

If they can't tell the difference by looking, they will be able to tell the difference the first time they ride 'em hard and put 'em to bed wet.

Hopefully, there will be HOGs to help. :)
Cobalt, all of your knives are SR101...sell them to me. ;)

So far, ALL Busse BG knives are logo'd. All requests for sterile BG's...have been denied. At least my requests... LOL :D
