Is it made from Infi?

Doesn't help for buying and selling, but I'm pretty confident I could tell the difference in the metal based on sharpening it. SR-101 and INFI feel completely different. At least late model INFI. and in theory, that is the only time the two might be confused.

Good for you, but how about the other 5 people who own busses and don't know

Heres my WTF's , there is a difference. Not sure if I could tell which is which if standing alone in a for sale post.

I'm pretty confident this threads Op and everyone else following it is concerned with the buying and selling part.

I may be khukoo, but that difference is minimal at best, and negligible at worst. Just by pics it would be impossible to differentiate. It would seem to me that one would need both versions in hand to tell a difference and not get burned. My mileage does vary! (MMDV)

Understood.

I'd be hard pressed to believe that there are only a couple of us on here that can't feel, or hear, the difference. I know there have been threads before on the unique characteristics of INFI when sharpening. I just did a quick search, couldn't find the one I'm talking about with INFI ringing or singing during sharpening (which is very rare with other steels). Anyway, I'm not really against what you're saying (proposing? Observing?). And I could see where it could become a problem when a blade has changed hands several times, stripped somewhere in the process, and someone forgets that the one they bought stripped and told it was SR-101 forgot years down the road, having never used it. But I believe that would be a rare case, and in almost all, if not all, cases of a blade being sold between Busse fans on the Exchange, the seller is a very reputable person who would not intentionally mid-represent, and would quickly clarify and correct if it was pointed out by the more well-versed Busse Elders. And for the dis-reputable dealers in other places, there's no sure way to make it impossible, and very little way to make difficult, other than the policing that I've already witnessed.

Lol, I was joking when I aid 5, lol. Seriously though, you have not seen the number of PM's I get about SHSHII's and whether they are A2 or INFI. It gets funny after a while, but I get it. There was never any firm word from Busse on what was what. So, no one knows, except that if it is a hollow tube SHSHII it is definitely INFI other than that you are guessing.

I anticipate people posting threads down the line saying that Busse used to be great but now they all rust.

There may be subtle differences between models but only people who really follow Busse will know what they are. As far as the Battle Grade logo, used knives ultimately have no logo. It is what it is.

Folks buying used will just have to be a lot more careful to ensure that they spend the right amount of money getting the knife that they want.

Speculation here, but I wonder if there's a hidden marking. Has anyone removed their handles from a BG model yet?

Roger that. Like I said, I'm not against or disagreeing with what you're saying, so much. More that I am impressed with the amount of help Busse fans are willing to give piglets if they come on here with honest questions after trying to figure some things out themselves. At least it has seemed that way to me.

Unfortunately, I would not be surprised at all if that started happening in 5 years or so...
