Or am I seeing a lot of "net" sale threads?

I am sorry for anyone this offends but recently I've seen an influx of "net to me" sales forums and I don't mean to be a pain but can we just have more posts that are for sale for what it costs? I know the 3% is enough to mention but am I wrong to just think you raise the price a little?

It seems pretty common any more. Folks just wanting a bit more without coming right out and stating it. I have had purchases where the seller asked, nicely, if I'd mind throwing in enuf to pay for the fees and shipping. Reminds one of someone who is almost "cheating." Does not make for a friendly transaction.

I have seen an influx of many NET TO ME sales
I completely by pass them
I figure the cost of fees and shipping if I choose in the
total sales amount

I also have seen a HUGE amount of Friends and Family offers in
sales threads as well..

We know where the F&F sales get you in a bad situation.. No protection
for the buyer..
Great thread.
Not you...Its seen Im certain by many..

Never been a fan of that either. I just include my transaction costs as part of the price.

"Net to me" just allows the seller to slightly misrepresent the cost of the item in order to appear cheaper than a comparable item from a more upfront seller. The buyer will pay all the costs regardless, it's just a matter of how it's presented.

It's not unlike airlines that have a low ticket price but add a fee for your luggage (as if you could travel without it) or vendors with an artificially low prices, followed up with exorbitant shipping charges.

I don't like the "net to me" threads either, but what I dislike even more is what's currently happening over on the porch section of Bladeforums. Many of us were waiting for a chance to get the new GEC TC Barlows...and hey, some us didn't get one, no big deal...but then there are those who did get one (or multiples) for the sole purpose of flipping them for 2-4 times the initial retail...and to boot, some still add the laughable, "net to me" to their exaggerated prices.

I typically interpret "net to me" as the price the seller wants to pocket after all fees and shipping and handling is paid for. However I do believe sellers need to be forthcoming about who pays the fees and shipping, than be sneaky about it.

It completely bizarre to me. The seller is supposed to pay the PayPal fee's anyway, so they are basically breaking PayPal rules. I've passed over many sellers because of this practice.

I'm asking "net" just because I cannot add fees into price due to I'm overseas and those fees differs for US and NONUS members - to be fair...

I pass over these kinds of sales as well...seller is responsible for the PayPal fees in the first place, as per PayPal rules...I only buy from upfront, no-nonsense sellers. If they cannot even honestly represent the price they want, or just be up front about wanting more money, who knows what else is in store. They're breaking PayPal rules just to get a few bucks. So that's how I deal with this latest trend.

Also will have nothing to do with those that want to do the "F&F" or "Gift" options. Totally against PayPal rules, just opens you up to a bunch of drama & trouble that is completely avoidable. Buyer beware & protect yourself. Don't give up the one good thing about PayPal which is your protection in the event of trouble.

If you can't afford a few bucks in fees to protect yourself, maybe you shouldn't be selling.

I pass on people who try to put the fees on the buyer. It is against PP policy, and pretty scummy to force the buyer to protect you both.

Totally.

I always say net to me or f&f only. I sell a ton of stuff and have great feedback. It's just a mindset to buyers who won't buy listings because the seller posts net to me. When you buy retail at a store you are paying net to the store, what's any different here? I don't get it. Anyways, I will happily keep selling my stuff 😁

I think factoring shipping into the price is different to factoring in PayPal fees and I think charging shipping separately in these circumstances is fair. It may be a good idea to say why shipping is extra in your sale thread just so people don’t confuse you with the rest of the "net to me" sellers. Communication communication communication. ..

As an Australian buyer I'm used to figuring shipping separately but I can see why the PayPal thing irks people.

Well, besides being excluded from many sales due to living in Europe, I do have the simple rules of "no f&f" and no "net to me".
Friends and family to me is exactly for what the name says, friends and family, if you want to do business, use the business transaction.
Net to me is what I almost consider an insult when the seller doesn't even list the final price. To me it just lacks good behaviour and a level of seriousness/ commitment. And that is just not the way I do business. Not for an item that costs 7 bucks or 700.

Seems simple to me but I'm a simple upfront man anyway...list the total price you need/want, i.e. $125, and post in your sales thread...there ya go  Mystery solved!

At best, it's people blindly imitating what they see others do in their sales threads. At worst, it's an intentional inducement to get people to pay via Friends & Family. Any way you cut it, it's a sure sign to steer clear of that seller.

It's taught me to slow down on knee jerk buys. I now read very slowly what the true asking price is.
I'd rather see "net to me" as opposed to a ridiculous " PP fees of 4% or higher ". Those are the ones I pass up.
At least with the " net to me " I can add the correct fees that PP charges. I've gotten some grumbles, but haven't experienced a refusal over a few dollars.

I pass right on by any sales thread that is NET or F&F. F&F is needlessly risky and NET is overly nickel and dime. Its far easier for everyone if you just list the final price and that's it.

So you're OK with breaking PayPal's rules?
