Is it weird that I am tweener'd out?

Condors? Do yourself a favor and get one big Becker first....save yourself the hassle of selling the Condors. If you dint like it, you can always flip it quick in the exchange. The big internet retailer named for a south American river has BK7s for like $67...BK2's less than that.

Agreed. I never gave Becker knives a chance before December, but once I had a BK-2 and 9 in my hands, I wondered where these knives had been all my life. They're worth every penny.

I guess I'm just over the Shorts.

I have yet to pick one up. Mostly because of the price, like you mention. Between having two MK1s, a new micarta Bushlore, and no time to really get out and use any of them, I just can't justify the purchase. Plus, none of them are really calling to me as much as they seem to be for my fellow Beckerheads... although I wouldn't kick the 17 out of bed for eating crackers.

I can understand where you're at. For me personally, I like a medium sized fixed blade...especially for casual day hikes and such. Since I've sold all of my previous medium sized knives (ie: BHK Bushcrafter, ESEE-4, Backwoods custom), I have an open slot for one.

But shoot, if you're all about the biggun's and the wee-one's, that's up to you. I strongly recommend the 7 since you dont have one...and they kick ass!

Clicking the "Buy Now" button tuesday, along with a 14. Working out a deal with Godspeed! for a pancake dangler for the 7 with a piggyback for the 14. I have to fill this gap before I get another chopper.

I have similar thoughts.

I love my 17. The shorts handles are amazing and fit my hands very well. The blade is as Ethan says, a perfect length for a medium knife. I'm confident I can do anything I need to with the 17... except one thing.

Carry it in my pocket.

And so the BK-14 remains my number one blade. If I am wearing pants, it's in my pocket. If I were ever to find myself in the infamous "one knife situation," I would have the Eskabar. Especially now that the zytel handles are available, the 14 can do most tasks that the shorts can do. In Ethan's challenges, I've used the 14 to build a shelter, make various other tools or weapons, and even uprooted a tree. I could have done any of those things with the 17, but the 17 wouldn't have been carried in my pocket.

One day, while carrying the 17, I found myself in a very wooly area with lots of multiflora rose, and I found myself missing my BK-9 as I tried to cut a trail through the rose vines with the 17. It just didn't have the reach I was used to, and I got some thorns in my hand.

When I head to the woods, I prefer a big knife or a hawk for greater reach and more chopping ability. So the BK-9 is my number two blade.

Therefore, the BK-17 ends up as number three. Not carried on my person, but on my pack or in my truck to be available as a back up, or to be used just because it's a sweet knife and I'm close to my truck.

Even in the Post-Tweener era, I'm still a chopper/little knife kinda guy, so the medium knives are not my first choice.

Did I mention I still love the 17?

Ive been eyeing the 17 since the tweeners came out...even during the bk-16 craze. Im planning to order one soon.

the eternal dilemma of having too many knives, which ones to use? I'm sure I'm gonna get the tweeners and a 5 eventually, but right now I need to organize my collection with a seriously evaluating eye towards ACTUAL use. I was seriously heartbroken yesterday when I broke a knife I made (and spent a LOT of hours trying to get it right) when after batonning it got lodged on the stump I was using and a big chunk of the edge made the stump it's home. I was soooo pissed I bent it till it snapped 2 inches from the tip, then bent the remaining stump back to straight, looks like a razel now. I realized I shoulda been batonning with the 9, which I kept using to make a nice slow roasting fire to cook some ridiculously delicious marinated ribs.

Point is, use the big knives for big knife stuff, and medium and small knives for all other stuff. Easy, right?

I am a big Bowie guy. The way I found the Becker line is I was looking for a big Bowie and was handed a BK9, after that I was hooked. I am into Becker’s because I am into big bowies, it’s that simple. Right now I have a BK9 and a BK2, the 9 is my favorite but by the end of summer I will have added a BK7 and a BK4.

I will probably get a BK 16 or 17 but they are only like 4 or 5th in line for me right now. They are cool knives but I had other wants before them. A MKI is most definitely on my list before the Tweeners.

Small knives are very limited in use so to me not as fun to have and probably why we might burn out on the tweeners fast. They are a cool knife but we have been spoiled by the big ones and the small ones just do not stand a chance.

I don't know man, the 11 and 14 are pretty damn good sellers....

It's a freaking awesome setup. I wear mine all day in the woods and hardly notice it's there, whereas when the weight is in my pack, it makes a difference.

Oh, and I was nice the other day. It is ridiculous that you're over the tweeners so fast! You were b!tching and moaning about them for so long and it takes less than a month to get bored with them? Spend more time in the woods and less time sniffing bleach!

Yes I was thinking the same thing as I wrote that. There are some that are really into 11 and 14 and I know they are cool but I am a big Bowie guy so that is why I was able to write what I did.

I love Dothan. What is the name of that Sea Food/ Steak place that is next to the BBQ place on the south side of the loop. Its acrost the street from that new truck stop?

Hunts...its a great place....how often do you get to dothan?

Tanner, where do you get the wrap you're putting on your handles? I've checked four small farts and all they carry is white.

I'll try Dick's and Hibbet, if they don't have it I'll take you up on that.

Wow. That almost sounded condecending and angry. I spend plenty of time in the woods...using full sized Beckers. I like the tweeners...just not enough to want to buy them all right now when they cost as much as the bigger ones that I prefer. Especially when I like my knives to be small enough to edc or big enough for heavy work. IMO, these knives should be in the $50-ish range.

I know Dicks sells that type, but they were out too the other day. I saw grey the other day where I got a new pack, but wasn't sure how that'd look.

I feel your pain. I love this knife. The sheath is an improvement (Becker Sheath and Tool). But, it won't take the place of my 11 or 14. Too small for larger chores / survival (as I've recently determined). However, I still love it. And will obtain the other two siblings.

Also interested in a G! 7/14 configuration, I'll wait to see what yours looks like before I order. So glad I went with the 7.

Sorry, going more for snarky and ironic. I just found it funny that you lead the charge on "when are the tweeners coming" and are the first to fall out of the honeymoon phase. :)

I was Tweener'd out the moment that I opened the box. The handle on the BK16 felt small and uncomfortable in my hand. I haven't had a chance to play with it and I've since cut and sanded off the lower part of the handle (butt end). I have three sets of micarta handles and 2 sets of spacers that I will be trying my luck with. I'm just waiting for some free time after next week to start shaping the handles for the new and improved tweener.
