Hello everyone, I would like everyone's opinion on getting expensive Spyderco knives, I am talking endura, delica, or maybe even something like a paramilitary 2. I would not like you guys to recommend other knife brands, I want to limit this thread to spyderco. Thank you all very much for helping me out! If you have any stories you would like to tell about you and your spyderco please share, thanks!

I wouldn't be paying such a price tags for folders that are (to me!!!) of funny futuristic designs and shapes, that I would call simply mall ninja stuff.....

Sorry,no intentions on making angry Spyderco fans and owners, but to me,these blades are not worth more than few bucks, I could possibly pay 20 to 40 USD a piece, not more.....

I am not much of folders fan, neither user, simply because I expect blade to be tough and rigid, so fixed blades are the only option...

If there are any folders that I find to be worth of money and of well designs and construction vs price tag, than it is traditional designs such as Buck 110,or many Case folders and so on,knives that cost 50-100 USD but will last and do the job expected....(no I am not recommending them to you,as per your wish!)

Spyderco makes awfully expensive folders that looks like something that just fall down from alien spaceship.

Just my honest 2 cents

Go to theSpyderco sub forum for a treasure trove of opinions - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/726-Spyderco

I am one who has been super impressed with the variety of knives - folders and fixed blades - and consistent quality of Spyderco knives. The 3 you mention are very highly regarded by the Spyderco community and may other knife nuts. Try one or all, you will be amazed at how good an "alien spaceship" knife can be. :D

Yes.

Those aren't the expensive ones.

There is a spyderco subforum if you want to talk just spyderco.

He really doesn't. ;)

But I eagerly await his line of knives that have the same selection of steel, quality construction, and well thought-out ergonomics..and for only $40 too, since he knows so much about making knives and running a business. :D

The Endura, Delica, and Pm2 are the Holy Trinity of Spyderco, and probably three of the most popular models and for good reason, they do exactly what they are designed to do, cut stuff, and cut it easily. As far as them being "worth it" u need to ask yourself what you will be using the knofe for and what you expect it to do. If you are planning on batoning with them, or using one to cut yourself out of a downed Huey, then no, these are not the knives for u. But if you are looking for solid, reliable designs that can handle any and all normal EDC tasks, then yes they are absolutely worth it! Give the Delica a try, it's probably one of the best all around spydercos you could try, and it will let u see if u like them before you dive into any more pricey models. Hope this helps!

Oh My God.

You seriously think this? Spyderco revolutionized the knife industry with designs like the Endura. The Buck 110 is also a classic design but it has nothing on most of spyderco's lineup. Especially when you consider toughness and rigidity.

Na, DUK doesn't make a folder.

Spyderco blades do admittedly have a strange look at first, but once you get one in hand and use it you see the reason behind the madness and realize they are incredibly functional knives. Judging them purely based upon their looks is absolutely absurd.

To the TC, I strongly recommend purchasing a decently priced Spyderco. When I wake up in the morning and know that I'm going to be heavily using my knife that day, a Spyderco finds its way in my pocket every single time. I can't give any higher praise than that. I would look towards the Paramilitary 2 or Military as my first Spyderco. These are great slicers that can withstand any knife task you can throw at them despite their 'delicate' appearance.

The Delica and Endura are not expensive knives in today's definition. Not bargain knives or economy knives, for sure, but when you can get either of them for less than $60, you're not talking expensive.

The PM2 will run $100 to $135 these days. To me, that's getting into the realm of "expensive".

I presume the OP is questioning the value of these knives vs the price of these knives. I admit to being prejudiced since I've owned Spydercos for over 25 years and I consider them to be some of the best cutlery available. I also like and carry other brands of knives, mostly Benchmade these days--also "expensive". Quality products like "expensive" knives can instill a pride of ownership not usually found in low priced knives.

So, what do you get for paying $60 and up for a seemingly simple tool like a folding knife? Other than quality of build and materials, you get the reputation of the company that backs up their products. Speaking only of Spyderco knives, their basic line of knives (Dragonfly, Delica, Native, Stretch, Endura) are built with VG-10 blades, fiberglass reinforced nylon handles and have back locks. The blades open one-handed by using your thumb in the hole in the blade as opposed to a thumb stud like some other knives. The handles on these knives are outstandingly ergonomic and most people find they fit their hands very well. The steel used in the blades is capable of exceptional levels of sharpness, can hold their sharpness fairly well and are easy to resharpen when they get dull. All Spyderco knives come with a lifetime warranty and their customer service has a reputation for excellence. If you go to the Spyderco subforum here on BladeForums, you will see that Sal Glesser, the owner of the company, posts often and responds to customer concerns.

There are those who say silly things about the looks of the knives, like "funny futuristic designs and shapes, that I would call simply mall ninja stuff...." People like that speak from ignorance. They base their opinions on how the tool looks, not on how the tool functions or the quality of the materials and build or the reputation of the company and the people behind the brand. I hope the OP is brighter than that.

Na, DUK doesn't make a folder.

Neither does SOLINGEN.

All that guy's continued nonsense aside....I am not a big Spyderco fan, but even I think it is very, very "worth" getting a Delica.

Its a widely loved, high-quality, industry changing knife made Sal Glesser, one of, if not the, best guy in the business.

Everyone really owes it to themselves to get one at some point.

I am guessing you are wondering if these knives (Delica, Endura, PM2) are worth the price premium over the lower-priced Spyderco lines, such as the Tenacious and Persistence?

If that is the question, it really is a matter of individual budget, preferences, and your actual need and intended usage for the knife.

I have one Spyderco, the Delica. I like the VG10 steel and the overall size, shape, and ergonomics of the knife. It is a lockback but with some practice it can easily be closed one handed. Mine doesn't flip open, but that's fine, a smooth steady push with the thumb opens it fast enough for me.

Mine was very sharp out of the box, took a very nicely polished edge using Spyderco's Sharpmaker, and has held that edge through several home improvement projects including using it to shave wood off of some doors I was putting up, cutting some carpet tiles, and some other mild home projects, without needing anything more than a light stropping. Some people don't care for the FRN handles but they seem both light and sturdy enough to me, and very grippy with the spiderweb patterning.

I don't have a lot of modern one-hand opening knives, but it's in my top 3 (along with a Benchmade Mini Grip and a ZT 0566) and it's one I have no plans of getting rid of.

So for me it was worth it. I don't have any of the lower-priced Spydercos, but I am sure they can be made to cut things well enough, so if your budget doesn't allow for a more expensive knife, you should still be able to take care of business with the economy line.

If you like the design enough, and can see yourself happily carrying and wielding such a knife of said design, then from a purely quality and build aspect, aesthetics aside, then yes, a Spyderco is worth as much as any other knife in a comparable price range...

If you don't like the design, and cannot happily carry a knife that you do not like the looks of, then no price is worth a knife, no matter how well built, that you won't be able wield with pleasure.

Not your honest 2 cents.
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy.

Simple answer, yes. Decide which you like, pick it up, carry it, use it. Spyderco makes tools, first and foremost. They almost always cut well, cut for a long time and are comfortable and easy to use.

If you're looking for one to snag my vote is for the Native 5 Lightweight. They can be had for about $70 and S35VN is a good steel to get acquainted with if you're not familiar with super steels.

Once again, due to volume of misunderstanding AND LACK OF READING ABILITIES FROM MANY here...."Hi everyone,I would like everyone's opinion on getting expensive Spyderco knives"

I do not think any of mentioned pocket knives are worth half of the price tags and NO, IT IS NOT WORTH AT ALL TO PAY FORTUNE FOR A POCKET KNIFE, ESPECIALLY NOT FOR THE SPYDERCO-!

There are plenty of other genuine and not silly looking pocketknives that are worth it....

When it comes to me,- pocket knife is substitute for fixed blade knife, the one you can carry in pocket without needing sheath or belt, safely closed....

It is a substitute for a knife to me and therefore I wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks for it...Fixed blade is different and real knife to me and for good fixed blade I'd pay couple of hundreds, not for a pocket knife.

That's my opinion, whether haters here like it or hate it :):):):)

Just a reminder to haters and stalkers-thread name is: "Is it worth getting expensive spyderco knife?"
