Is it worth getting an expencive spyderco knife?

Is it worth getting a Spyderco? Short answer is absolutely.
Are we talking about quality, then yes.
Ergonomics, yes.
Warranty, yes.

Am I missing something?

And some of them, given the above, are an absolute bargain. Some others get you what you can't get from any other company. Take the H1 knives as an example.

Just curious, but what criteria are you using to say that Spydercos aren't "worth it"? Is it based solely off of looks?

This is the last post I am going to quote here and that solely for the reason, question was asked in polite, not insulting manner....The others are not worth to my precious time.

It is based of ridiculous looks and of experience too. When serving my time in army, friend snapped in half his 200-300 bucks costing Spyderco pocket knife by opening can of beans...I had a 10 bucks non-descripted cheap pocketknife and I was opening these bean cans same way, by piercing and cutting upwards cover of it and my 10 bucks pocket knife lasted all my time in army...Friend's spyderco lasted about month for him.

I am not a folder fan at all and I don't see anything wrong with anyone's personal preference in knives. Some of the comments here towards me for this fact, just shows how limited are its authors...

I really enjoy my UKPK almost daily. It has frn handles, was less than $50.
Even survived cutting a live wire(lesson learned, lock out electrical yourself)
I would really like one of the Centofante memory knives one day..

What is important is your own taste. If you are into folders and like distinguished Spyderco looks, ergonomics and materials they are made of than you go for it....If you don't, there are smarter, better options too for sure...

Well said.

Mike

More than that even is the anti-Spyderco crusade the guy is on.

I don't mind if people like different knives; in fact, they have to, or else supply wouldn't be able to keep up.
But there's a big difference between not liking a knife, and showing up everywhere you can to evangelize about it.

I wouldn't be paying such a price tags for folders that are (to me!!!) of funny futuristic designs and shapes, that I would call simply mall ninja stuff.....

Sorry,no intentions on making angry Spyderco fans and owners, but to me,these blades are not worth more than few bucks, I could possibly pay 20 to 40 USD a piece, not more.....

I am not much of folders fan, neither user, simply because I expect blade to be tough and rigid, so fixed blades are the only option...

If there are any folders that I find to be worth of money and of well designs and construction vs price tag, than it is traditional designs such as Buck 110,or many Case folders and so on,knives that cost 50-100 USD but will last and do the job expected....(no I am not recommending them to you,as per your wish!)

Spyderco makes awfully expensive folders that looks like something that just fall down from alien spaceship.

Just my honest 2 cents
The Brick 110..

Just my honest 3 cents..

I would recommend a PM2 just for the build quality jump over the Endura and the Delica. I own them all and love them to pieces but I think you'll find more happiness with the PM2.

Hello everyone, I would like everyone's opinion on getting expensive Spyderco knives, I am talking endura, delica, or maybe even something like a paramilitary 2. I would not like you guys to recommend other knife brands, I want to limit this thread to spyderco. Thank you all very much for helping me out! If you have any stories you would like to tell about you and your spyderco please share, thanks!

Of course Spydercos are worth it, or they would not have such a huge fan base, tons of models and be one of the most popular knife brands.
I prefer a model with G-10 scales over FRN.
Best of luck.

Of the three you mentioned, I like the PM2, but any of them would be a great first Spyderco. Like others have said, those are not the expensive ones, they go much higher than that. I wouldn't recommend going any higher to start with as you probably get more bang for your buck with those, unless you have some really specialized needs. I have finally realized that the more I spend on a knife, the less I want to use it. I love all knives but the sweet spot for me is between $50 - $150.

Thread is about opinions on Spyderco, not about opinions on my opinions.
Really? Then why did you wander off into a discourse on the wonders of fixed blade knives which the OP didn't ask about?

Your "opinion" on a knife brand you've clearly never used is valueless. The OP was asking people who have owned and used Spyderco folders for an opinion.

/Face in palms. Dude if a knife fell from an alien spaceship be damned sure I'd want to have it!

Man, my ignore list is getting big..

I had forgotten about the ignore list.

+1 added.

To Buckboy you really can't go wrong with any of the knives you mentioned. They're all great knives and what I'd consider a great value. Shame this thread got sidetracked........oh well keeps things interesting ;-)

No, I think we all learned a lot and so will anyone who reads this thread in the future.

I know my opinion is in the minority, but I am just not generally a Spyderco folder fan. I've handled a couple of their fixed blades (Mule team and bushcraft) and was very impressed by the fixed blades, but don't like their folders. Primarily, I am just not a huge fan of the plastic/GRN handles they use. On a knife in the $60-70 i find it cheesy compared to the nice aluminum scales you'd get from Kershaw or the G10 scales from Buck on the knives in that same range. You have to get up into the $100+ category to get G10 handle scales.
Also not a huge fan of the lock back they use on most of their knives. The ball bearing lock is great and I wish they used on more of their knives.
Far down on the list of reasons is the look. For some reason, and I realize it's my own irrational thing because function should always come before looks, I just can't get past what I perceive to be looking goofy.

Again, my opinion is in the minority.

I don't think you are in minority, maybe here yes,but overall, definitely not

I was not a spyderco fan until I bought my pm2. It hasn't left my pocket except for the brief few days I lost it. There is a thread about it. Then I found it. Been in the pocket since.

I tend to agree that the blade shapes can be a touch off putting....until you use one.

I love my pm2 and am planning on buying more spydercos. And BM, and ZT and, and , and...

I think the Cara Cara 2 in any handle material except stainless is an excellent introduction and a Delica, Dragonfly, or Native would be great too.
