Is it worth getting an expencive spyderco knife?

........but if not trolling, what then is this;

If you're talking about his statement that the knives looking like they fell from a spaceship, Spyderco certainly has some unusual shapes. Now the form may follow function, but that doesn't mean they don't look weird: Swick, Szabohawk, Caspian Salt, Yojimbo, Balance, Dodo, Lava, Shabaria, Cricket, Matriarch, Civilian, Pkal, etc.

@buck110boy Those are not expensive knives. The cost of a Delica is around the price of a night out Bowling! The Delica, Endura & Para2 are definitely, without a doubt, worth their asking price. Personally I would recommend a Native 5 lightweight over those three. IMO, the Military is their finest offering. Any Spydie over the cost of a Millie is not worth it. If you ever consider paying more than $200 for ANY knife... Strongly consider a Chris Reeve Knives Sebenza instead.

Hello everyone, I would like everyone's opinion on getting expensive Spyderco knives, I am talking endura, delica, or maybe even something like a paramilitary 2. I would not like you guys to recommend other knife brands, I want to limit this thread to spyderco. Thank you all very much for helping me out! If you have any stories you would like to tell about you and your spyderco please share, thanks!

Those models aren't exactly expensive, even in the Spyderco line.

But yes they are worth the money, I would recommend the Para 2, get it from a reputable dealer like Knife Works, Knife Center, GP Knives as examples.

Lodd, I wouldn't disagree with the statement that with a spyderco you are paying for design. What I would disagree with is that its a bad thing. The price is the designed efficiency, engineered strength, the refinement and lastly the style. There are a lot of knife makers that to make something stronger, they make it bigger, heavier, thicker. Sal's team figure out where it needs to be strongest and does only that. Lets take the PM2, simple handle, simple liners, simple shape. But the lock has to be within a certain tolerance to work well, so its been designed well, and that takes time. Something like a delica doesn't need to have super tight tolerances, so the production can be cheaper. This all has upsides, and downsides. The Apple analogy isn't far off, Apple stuff tends to do what it can not through brute force, but by efficiency. Its not a perfect analogy, but it sorta works. The more I look at spyders the more I see it.

?What,..... even after the outcome of ''that thread,' you persist!?

I wonder why......

Not "persisting". My doubts about it being an issue were alliviated by the rational folks who shared their convictions and experience. My post here was entirely complimentary. My thread was not derogatory, it just asked questions. Any quality project should be able to be subjected to that and come out looking stronger. Spyderco did.

You still don't get it. Your thread was derogatory. The fact that you can't see that shows that your apology was as much BS as the thread itself. You didn't just ask a question. Said the Spyderhole was a liability and then asked our opinion of that. You threw Ken Onion under the buss. Ken did not back up what you said he said. You posted inaccurate pictures in an effort to prove your flawed point. You then posted a product of your own design as a solution to this "problem". Sal came in and set the record straight. You made a half ass apology.

Then, after all that, you come here in this thread and say this:

The only concern I ever had about them was if the SpyderHole weakened the blade. After a fairly disasterous twelve page thread, I can say the BF community has not found it to be an issue even with moderate abuse.

Dispite how you tried to make this look, you are in fact still bring this up as a potential issue. Knock it off. Your opinion on anything Spyderco has forever been sullied. This will always be here. It is not going away. Don't give people a reason to remind you of it.

Love/Hate thing with Spyderco knives it seems in this thread.
Personally I find them generally overpriced UNLESS there is something in a particular knife's features you really want. In that case, they can be cheap.
For instance, I have multiple Salt models. Going around the ocean and fishing, that H1 steel is great stuff to me. I have 5 of them scattered around I think. Seawater hasn't trashed a single one of them so far.
I also have a Manix 2. And while I'm not crazy about the blade shape, it is about the cheapest entry point for getting something in S110V steel. After an initial sharpening, it has never really needing sharpening again.
With the Para 2 now being made in S110V, I will likely get one when everyone has had their fill and the prices drop a little. Suspect I will like that blade shape a lot more than the Manix I have now.

I always figured Spyderco was the "Apple" of knives. Good quality and specs, but you pay more for the design and the brand/logo. The first two are appreciated by all, the latter are a matter of individual taste.
/QUOTE]

As an owner of both Apple and Spyderco products, I think there are some valid parallels. High quality and value for money, unique innovative designs that are widely copied, and a core fan base with exceptional loyalty.
