Is Kershaw/Kai getting Blackwash happy?

Damascus was originally done for practical reasons. The applications today are mostly if not completely cosmetic.

A lot of custom makers near me use damascus, and while they make it look pretty, it's 100% usable and tough.

I think its pretty easy economics. You create a product people like so you make more of them. Supply and demand. Calling it blackwash happy insinuates there is something wrong, abnormal or questionable going on which I dont understand. If you like em, buy em. If you dont theres plenty of other knives. So I dont think they are any more black wash happy than benchmade is stonewash happy or medford is sharpened boat anchor happy.

sure seems that way. guess they make what sells....can't blame them for that.

Would you trade your shiny new red car for one that looks like it's been driven 100k through the jungle? How do you feel about pizza that's already been nibbled around the edge?

I think your analogy is flawed, the ZT blackwash finish, while nicely hiding scratches from use, is more about creating a rugged look in my opinion. It still looks and feels like a new knife, not a beat up old knife. The following is a better analogy for what the blackwash finish is doing.

To me its like this - here is a new jeep

Here is another new jeep with a package designed to make it feel more "rugged" - this is the same angle that blackwash is taking on ZT knives

Sometimes blades and knives are coated just to reduce shine/reflection.

yeah except for that bare steel sharpened edge that reflects light also.....:)

Let the grumpy old man be grumpy. If he thinks a knife is like a nibbled pizza because of it's finish, the debate is already in the toilet.

I like the blackwash finish. I like a good stonewashed finish too. And a good satin finish also looks great. Variety is good.

Yes, unless the damascus performs slightly differently in a way that you prefer.

That's what we're discussing. Is there a quantifiable performance difference between monosteel and damascus. If not, then using damascus is a purely cosmetic choice.

.. . . .which brings us to the subject of grey turds! Love me some simple elegance!

Fail.... try again please!!!

Because I'm a grumpy old man.

Damn kids. Get off my lawn and take your fangled blackwashed knives with you!

It's okay. We all like what we like. If you like being a grumpy old man and are fine saying it I can respect that.

Fwiw, I don't own any bw knives but there are also a lot of other popular things I don't own either. A rap album for example.
