Is Kershaw/Kai getting Blackwash happy?

Come back and visit. We'll hook you up with some green chile you'll never forget.

I'm actually going to be in your area in June (Walsenburg). I could use some good green chile. I'm going through withdrawals over here! I promise not to offend your senses with any blackwash knives...

My senses are not as easily offended as some people might lead you to believe. :)

Never truly thought they were. ;)

I personally like the look of blackwash, but the only one I ever owned (ZT0350) I ended up trading. That was for ergonomics more than aesthetics, though.

Would you trade your shiny new red car for one that looks like it's been driven 100k through the jungle?
Yes I would. If they made a blackwashed SUV I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
I hate the scratches my 4Runner has from brushing against trees when offroading and the front end dings from being blasted by road gravel during a Montana winter. With Blackwash, everything would blend together in an even finish. It serves the same purpose as a stone wash but is more effective.

That question is like asking if people would trade in polished faucet and door hardware for brushed stainless. Or brushed stainless on a fine watch that hides "desk diving" marks. Have you been to a hardware store or watch counter lately?

Blackwash has been an insanely popular finish for KAI. One or two people who don't like it doesn't mean a thing. I hate partially serrated tantos but the Wallyworld crowd eats that stuff up so Kershaw keeps making them.

Just another foofoo cosmetic touch to sell knives, like black, stripes, camo, damascus, and so on. Proclaim it as the latest and bestest and folks with more knives than they'll ever use buy more. This is not just Kershaw but the industry in general. If the blade is not a carbon rust magnet then there's no good reason to coat it with anything.

I just thought I'd chip in that coatings aren't necessarily purely cosmetic. I regularly break down large quantities of cardboard boxes, and the black DLC that Kershaw (and presumably ZT) uses on their knives is actually very useful in that tape adhesive doesn't stick to it very well, preventing buildup of adhesive and gunk that would noticeably increase drag on the blade when cutting.

As for the blackwash finish, I'm not particularly fond of it. Plain stonewash does the job just fine for me, and I like the look of plain steel better.

Think as with anything knife related everyones preferences are vastly different. I personally love the Blackwash on some of my knives ... it takes the shine off without a full black coating that shows wear. I do like the look but for me its a very functional option to not make a knife thats a week old and been on one trek with me come back lookin like its went through 3 years of hard use.

So as with those that prefer ZT or Spydercos or CRKs or whichever ... its subjective n you only have to buy the knives that you want to ...if BW isnt your thing its ok.
