Hello,

This year I decided to slim down my collegtio
I had +/- 150 off bit at some point I have realised that I was not really carrying, handling or using most of them …. What was a hobby for me turned into an accumulation I felt
So I decided to sold most of what I have and I am now in the ~35 off - which is still a lot 😅 - but at least I have the time to carry and use them.
I am at a point where I enjoy more having less knives, but knives that I really appreciate.

Anyone as on a similar path ?

Just for the thread to be fun, share pictures of what you keep in your collection after the cut down
🤘

One thing that has changed for me is the fading out of the attraction to higher end knives like CRK, CPK and Randall. But they sure went fast to the grandkids and two sons in law. That said, David Mary is making me a very good boning knife for kitchen use.

I cut massively last year, and haven't looked back. I currently own a small 31 insingo as EDC, a mnandi damascus for church/nice occassions, and a dragonfly salt for vacation. I have a CRK Backpacker as my fixed. I do keep an eye on CRK listings, and if the right one comes up, I might spring as a backup to my small 31.

Yep, less is better:

I’m down to about 100+- now. Began the “divestiture” last year. I’m having a great time bringing a bit of happiness to relatives, neighbors, associates and old friends. Over the years, these folks have done a quite a lot for me. Bringing smiles to folks across the street and across the country is pretty damn rewarding. Still have 50-60 to go.

Sheesh - what an incredible collection you have there! I have about 30 knives (American and Chinese) but I’ll get that down to 15 some time in the future.

I think just the sebenza lg insingo might have been fine, maybe one shiro? at most 2 crks? maybe one beater for edc. if you got deep pockets tho, more power to ya if it makes you happy

Question to those that are thinking to reduce their collection: do you consider yourself a true collector ?

I think at some point I have been, but not anymore.
I reall see myself more as an amateur that enjoy a hobby

I war with this issue recurrently , but when it comes time to actually sort them out ...🤷‍♂️

I take out some of my oldest knives and play with them awhile , and it's like " Hey these here are still pretty cool ! "

And it brings back memories , from many years ago . My history , experience , and growth .

I always put them back away . ☺️

I have really been experiencing the same thing. I've never let it get to a really high number but for me having more than 10 feels draining. So I have been reducing and just trying to enjoy my favorite. For the last 2 months I have o ly been carrying my Para 3 and it turns out to just be what I find works best for me. I'm pretty much trying to sell the last few other knives over time and just have a small rotation of Para 3s

I'm not a collector. All my knives were bought to be used. Some get carried a lot, but most just sit in the drawer. I don't know how many I have, a hundred or more I guess, and it's way more than I need.

For many years, I got along just fine with just three knives. An Uncle Henry stockman, that I carried every single day for over 30 years. A Buck 110, that I bought 50 years ago, that I carried when I went hunting. And a fixed blade survival knife that I got in Danang in 1967.

Still, I'm not selling any. I have three sons & a son-in-law that will take good care of all my guns & knives, when I die.
