So iv'e been trying to find a hobby and realized that i really like knives i don't have many in fact i only have 1 cheap mtech folding knife but i'm happy with it and carry it around every where that i can but i don't really have the budget to collect knives and such like other people do. I know collecting knives is a hobby but is liking knives a hobby too? I'm sorry if this question makes no sence to you i tried to explain it the best way that i could lol :)

Butterboy,
Welcome to Blade Forums.
Great question that makes a lot of sense.
You own a knife that You like and that is all that matters as a collector.
Sometimes it it just as fun to see what others collect, and discuss.
In answer to Your Question, Yes, Liking Knives is a hobby.
So, pull up a chair and enjoy Your New Hobby.

Is liking baseball a hobby even though you only have a cheap glove and only play a couple pickup games a year?

I'd define a hobby as something you specifically invest time into (notice I said time, not money), and enjoy doing.

So yes, if you like knives, it can be a hobby, but just liking knives doesn't make it a hobby, if that makes sense.

I don't know that liking knives alone makes it a hobby, but liking knives, participating on the forums and learning about them certainly could qualify in my opinion, or of course collecting. You don't need to have loads of knives nor do you need to collect expensive knives. It all can be worked to your own taste and budget.

I will chime in and say "yes" even though by logical deduction that now makes pizza a hobby of mine as well

I'd say two things I guess. First, don't try to find a hobby. As you experience a variety of things the hobbies that speak to you will find you and develop naturally as you are exposed to and begin to become engaged in them. Second don't gauge your "success" in hobbies through comparison to others. You'll never measure up because there is alway someone out there who owns more, can afford more, etc. Measure it instead by your personal enjoyment, the fulfillment that comes from learning and participation in the hobby and surrounding community, the desire you have to continually learn about the subject, etc. I have lots of hobbies and if I measured the validity of my interest in them only by the scale and scope of my collections to others alone I wouldn't enjoy them at all. Just my $0.02

If your funds are limited you can learn to sharpen like a Jedi Master, on sandpaper, touch up on ceramic coffee cups. You can look for great deals on used knives. You can lurk, post, and learn here till you know enough to make your possible purchase of another knife a perfect one. You can whittle, the list goes on. (help me out people)

A knife hobby doesn't have to be a knife purchasing hobby.

To have interest in, and therefore occupy oneself with a certain topic sounds like a hobby to me.
While it is impossible to own all the masterpieces, we can sure enjoy them all.
Isn't it like that in most cases?
This is a large community with so much to discover.
Have fun!

Welcome to the forums.....

I'd say liking knives are a hobby. Similar to a guy who likes cars for example, subscribes to Hot Rod, but may own an old beater Camero himself. Easy to enjoy something without necessarily owning it yourself.

I've shortened his post to keep the bare essence of his statement. He said it very well indeed.
Welcome here and enjoy the forum with us.

Enjoy it no matter where it takes you, learning , experimenting, etc, and yes, liking is a hobby, it does not have to mean buying a lot. Just be careful, it can be addictive. :D

Call it a hobby. Or don't. What you call it is irrelevant. If you're interested in it, pull up a chair. :)
