Is liking knives a hobby?

Sure it is, I've spent many hours browsing pics, reviews etc. on knives without buying them.

I bought a couple of cheap knives when I was a teenager. Then I got a Spyderco Endura (not knowing anything) and only carried that for a decade. I would look at the knife's design, blade etc. and get all giddy and wondered if I was nuts. Then I discovered this forum with all its CRK, Strider, frame lock, liner lock, titanium etc. and that was the end of it. Stick around and your wallet will get lighter, mines did by about couple of G's..! You will def find something you like :)

By definition, it is usually an activity.

Isn't watching TV an activity? What if you are into a particular type of show. You join forums or clubs to talk about said shows. You go to functions with other people who enjoy the same type of show as you. You collect tapes or DVDs or memorabilia.

Or hell, if it is just you watching TV and you want to call it a hobby, go for it.

And, unless you need a "hobby" to list on a piece of paper, who cares if what you do is a hobby or something else? It's your life, your free time.

Um, apparently you do. Remember the whole "is watching TV a Hobby" thing?

Merriam-Webster

Definition of HOBBY

: a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation

If you keep going, pursuit leads to pursuing leads to pursue defined as

: to follow and try to catch or capture (someone or something) for usually a long distance or time

: to try to get or do (something) over a period of time

: to be involved in (an activity)

So if you believe M-W, I think you have to look at the three definitions of pursue to determine if "liking" fits any of them. If it does, then you might have a hobby.

Just as an example, I like Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Scarlett Johansson, who for the sake of this forum, have all used blades in movies.

Yes, but do you peruse them...

But I don't consider watching TV a hobby. Or anything else passive. I guess you missed that.

The simple act of liking something does't make it a hobby. A hobby would require a bit more involvement/participation by definition.

Maybe like joining a knife forum?

And I guess it goes by what definition you go by. Personally I would go by what ever I thought
