Is my Ball to BIG

honestly never tested my anvis, I will have to find a ball bearing and try it out. You wanna see something really weird try the ball bearing on the same anvils, but on different stand options, the results will be surprising.

man 2" balls. yours are bigger than mine. i hear ed fowler gots 3" balls. i talked to my leather guy to day and he says its 70 years old and that it has no makers mark. he told me his freind got it from some one in the milatary. the anvil owner is gone for 2 weeks so i will have to wate to see it. how do i tell who made it.

Well my 3" ball just weighs too much. It probably would work just fine. I found a source for used 3" balls. Just never actually ordered any. I have about 100lbs for 52100 1.5" dia bar stock. Don't really need any more bearings. I do use the smaller 3/16-3/8 in my canned damascus. Sometime this summer I will probably make up some more and use some long rollers in the mix. Good Luck With that anvil. Even if it's an anvil shaped piece of iron it will be worth the asking price.

where did you get your 52100. i have been wanting to get some to forge out. i was thinking about getting some of the 1095 from ALDO to forge down. I would probaley get 100-200 pounds as i allwase wish i got more after its all sold. Like, i wish i got more than the 120 pounds of 5160 from burton.

I got mine from McMaster Carr. www.mcmaster.com part # 8938K31. It is 1.5 dia and 6' long for $103 + shipping. It has gone up a bit but still a decent price. 5160 can be had from pacific machinery and tool steel for a fair price. Shipping might be a pita but still not a bad price. If I had done my homework I could have gotten it for a better price than burton's but I bought some from him anyway.. It won't rot so I know I will use it. Still have a hard time saying no to steel. Will probably stop by pacific friday while I'm in Pertland. They have greatprices on O-1 right now.
