What do you all think? Am I being too picky? If I sell this down the road, I don't want the blade being off center to affect any sale. I noticed if I put just a tiny bit of pressure on the blade, it centers perfectly. It only moves just a hair though.

Hard to tell but it might be either ground off center or just off center. You can try adjusting the screws but that won't fix an uneven grind. If it bugs you, you should return it before using/disassembling/etc.

Objectively? Yes without a doubt, But perhaps not the end of the world. Its all relative, it appears cosmetic, if it bothers you perhaps talk with the dealer. IMHO, blade centering is overrated, but then a resale may bother others because it is so... Keep in mind there has never been a blade produced by anyone with true center. Just like a circle, no circle is perfectly Round... Good Luck TD

The more I look at the knife, it seems like an uneven grind may be partly to blame.

I do think it is cosmetic. Maybe the uneven grind is making it look off center. I love ZT knives, but this is the third in a row that is off center. It is just Abit frustrating for the money that is paid. Heck, some of the cheap Kershaws I have owned have almost all been pretty close to perfect as far as blade centering goes.

No. Looks fine.

Tell me something, though. The literature indicates the handle as blue carbon fiber. Is there only 1 color blue carbon fiber or 2 variants that are both blue carbon fiber, one rather carbon fiber-ish with blue hues and the very blue carbon fiber, like yours and the others I've seen posted? Thanks.

Is that this???

So far there has only been one type of carbon fiber, to my knowledge. The amount of blue that shows is really dependent upon the type of light that you are looking at the knife in. It seems to change color. Really nice knife. So, you don't think that the uneven or off center blade is an issue? I always think about possible resale and I could see alot of people on the exchange being turned off by the issue if I were to ever consider selling this beauty.

The grind of the blade is usually uneven more often naught on most production knives, zt 0850 included. It kind of looks like your is, slightly. Bevel on right is higher?

There's that too consider when determining whether it's center.

Looks fine from here but it's held slightly off center. Does it open smoothly and straight though?

It does look like the bevel on the right is a bit higher. It has fantastic action. Probably the nicest and smoothest action on washers I've ever experienced. That includes all the CRK knives I've had!

It's a production knife, not a piece of art. If it's so close to center that you're not even sure if it's off center at all, that's pretty darn good. If you want near-perfection you might want to stick with high-end custom knives.

Maybe.

The first photo show it dead on. The second photo shows it slightly favoring the clip side. The third photo is so bad I don't know why you posted it. I'd call it good. I'm always OK with a blade that well centered.

I'm with popedandy. If we demand that production knives be absolutely perfect in every regard, the cost of production knives will go up and go up a lot.

Pic one looks fine to me, but pic two looks a bit off to the clip side. Regardless of grind or centering, IMHO if it bothers you, you should contact the retailer or KAI.

I'll be picking one of these up from my LKS once the initial surge has past. By then, I should have the luxury of looking more than one over, if necessary. Any time I go over $200, my personal standards are pretty high.

I agree with you on being picky when shelling out this much. I wish I had a local store to pick out the right knife. I am just having a string of bad luck recently with bad grinds and off center blades. The last three knives I bought came like this. Some worse than others. Quality control is becoming an issue for alot of knife companies it seems.

Sometimes certain knives are perfectly centred but appear off centre due to the lock-bar leaning inwards abit due to spring tension.

yep fit and finish looks like an emerson. :)

i wouldnt call it not centered. you are overthinking it. course some like to nitpick, but ya have to ask yourself....do you care? will it not be carried and used to cut and all ya want is a show piece? then youll have your answer and know what to do.

The thing is, I like to keep and carry knives for awhile and sometimes sell them to upgrade down the road. Much like people do with cars, if you will. I just worry about resale as buyer's on the exchange are very picky I've noticed.

That is something I never thought about. Being this is carbon fiber on both sides with a sub frame lock could have something to do with it.
