Is my new ZT 0850 off center?

Actually quite a few dealers will request you try making an adjustment before saying its defective. Now taking it apart and trying to "fix" anything sure I would say that's a no no.

I got it perfectly centered by backing out the pivot just s bit with just a bit of side to side movement when the knife is closed so I am satisfied. The knife is the most amazing knife I have owned to date.

How about thinking of it from the other direction? If it is just a tiny bit off center it may cost you $10-20 on the resale value... Is sending it back, waiting on shipping and then potentially getting one that's worse worth that $10 drop in resale? I certainly don't think so. I'd keep it. Though, me attacking a giant refrigerator box with some sand/dirt on it would probably hurt the resale value far more than the minor centering issue anyway.

If you are happy with it thats awesome. I personally would live with it off center rather than compromising the integrity of the lockup by keeping the pivot loose. But thats my opinion. You likely wont have to worry about it. I just would choose function over form if having to choose a lock or centering.

I think people prefer a knife purchase to be in a non-molested condition rather than being off-center. I know I do. The more the tampering, the less the value. Mint means mint, off center included.

What's off center for you may not be off center to another. Live for the moment!

How exactly would you know if a knife has been taken apart? It's not like there is a tamper proof seal.

Well, the pivot isn't really loose. If I just snug the pivot a tiny bit, the knife is pretty tight to close. It's not too loose, I don't think the lock should be affected too much.
