Is pine resin poisonous?

I don't know that I'd use resin for much, but fresh pine sap is fine, people have been chewing and ingesting it 'forever'. Let's not make a mountain of a hill.

While doing research on the fur trade I came across some information a few years back. Young native females on the plains here would send the males for some type of ever green sap to be used as a dentifrice. So it was a long trip to the Cypress Hills out here in the grass lands. The hills were also the last bastion for the now long gone northern plains grizzly. Those bears fed primarily off the buffalo herds in that region.

in small amounts , its OK , in large amounts , it probably will make you sick

but then .. its the same for pain killers , a couple isnt bad , even benificial , a lot can kill you

same with alcohol for that matter .. a bit is actually good for you , a bit more feels good even , too much will make you sick , keep going and youll die

I know that doesnt answer if it is or not posionious .. it is I think both tho , it is in large quantities , but useful in small ones

Pine pitch isn't poisonous in respect as some other plant resins can be but it's consumption isn't recommended. Pine pitch is a wonderful material which can be used for many utilitarian things such as making glues, etc. but it also has strong medicinal qualities as an emetic (induces vomiting) & is given for such a desired effect. Although the needles can be chopped & SIMMERED for tea (an excellent source of Vit.C), boiling will leach out the resin producing a more bitter & strong turpentine taste. Consumption of a strong boiled tea or just a pea-sized piece of the pitch WILL give you a stomach ache in short order followed by vomiting. I'm speaking from experience here as one who not only has studied & applied primitive medicine for much of my life but who has also experienced it effects more than once. Don't try it unless you want everything to come back up. Hope this helps.
I just chewed on a couple of pine pitch globs today on my hike...8 hours ago..i still have residue in my mouth..i chewed too much but no stomach issues whatsoever I used it for teeth health

One piece of pine pitch has lasted you 6 years ?? That's longer than a piece of Beluga blubber I ate !!
