i recently was excited to purchase my first busse knife i read alot about the quality and was convinced and bought 2 i did not recieve one yet but as i did more research i saw people talking about the difference in IFNI steel and sr-101. i did not buy the ifni because it was almost double the price the 2 i bought is almost the same price as one in the INFI steel. is the INFI that much better to be worth double? and if it is was the sr-101 worth it at all?

SR101 is a great steel, and definitely worth the money. It is 52100 (or a tweaked form of it), with a proprietary heat treat. Don't let the INFI snobs convince you that your new knives are subpar.
Which knives did you buy?

I would take the sr101 over INFI in Most blades that are in my preferential size range (4" - 7" blade 8" - 12" oal).

My reasoning is that I prefer the keen edge capability that I would use over toughness that I wouldn't (likely) need. On top of that, if I am worried about breaking an sr101 Busse, then I should have grabbed a hatchet or I should be worried that I am in Significantly more dire straights than that incremental amount of toughness can be the thing that makes the difference.

SR 101 is GREAT Steel, enjoy, it will last you a lifetime with minimum maintenance-Congrats

SR-101 is just fine. In a big chopper that I will be putting through hell I would want INFI. But honestly, both will work. SR-101 in a smaller knife like an RMD is a great thing.

I personally own two blades in SR-101 and they have survived everything I have thrown at them. The stuff is damn tough, holds an excellent edge, and I find it to be among my favorite premium steels.

I love my blades in sr101. Does great with my chopper (battle rat) and smaller knives.

I don't think it lacks for anything IMHO.

Thanks everyone i will enjoy. All the good things i hear about these knives makes me more excited and i cant wait to receive them. Realistically do you think i will get them before the summer ends.

You can beat the heck out of the knives too and feel comfortable knowing that Busse has one of the best warranties out there. I have both sr101 and infi and love them both.

Did you get them from Operation 2 weeks, or from someone on the exchange?
If from O2W, what models did you get?

Expect to wait 3-4 months for the SOS and BBBG - if you get it earlier (not likely, but a couple have been done out of order) be happy...if it takes longer, commiserate with everybody else that is still waiting. You should have been given a time projection when you ordered the RMD.

My primary carry knife is a Jackmandu in SR101. I'm very confident in its capability.

No need to look back if you have SR101. Even if it cannot take as much abuse, the lifetime warranty covers it. And honestly, toughness is overrated. Most users will never reach the toughness limit of most of their knives.

I have REALLY grown to like the sr101 in my rmd, truly a great steel. After all the hard work I put it through digging, batonning, carving, throwing, it responded amazing to a sharpening steel in the kitchen knife block. I recommend it completely, and like cobalt said.. lifetime warranty equals using the hell out of it. Plus I doubt you'd ever need the warranty.
