Is the 5 going away?

Just stopped by to say hello to everyone and I read this. Very sad if true.

The 5 and the 15 are such sweet blades. They are without doubt two of my favorite Beckers.

Outstanding Blades Both!

They can be a little hard on a baton. But it is a branch you find in the woods, so big deal,

They take a wicked edge,

They just rock,

The 15 sees more use than any of my other Beckers, and all of them see a lot of use.

I am a little sad about this news.

Ethan said it right, get one while you can!

And for the record, I would not feel under knifed with the BK-5 in a zombie attack, or on a pirate ship.

The BK-5 is what got me into Beckers.

It's still my favorite Becker.

It's still my favorite knife EVER.

That is just pure evil my friend!
I did not know you were a knife dealer. Nice site, Congrats!

I need to grab a 17 before they go away. I always thought that would be the one to go away.

Thanks man. And yea, only been a couple of months, but it's starting to take off.......... slowly. lol

And you know I thought the 17 would be gone before the 15 too. Guess a lot of guys like the clip point.

BTW, Your 5 and 15 look really good!

I think they are the two blades in the Becker line up that look the best stripped.

It's been over two years since I've posted anything here, and it took this to bring me back. Needless to say I just ordered a BK5, and I've had my BK15 for two days now. I actually decided to get the 5 two weeks ago when my son, and I (low96hb and his son were there too) had the privilege of meeting Mr. Becker at the Smoky Mountain Knifeworks rep week show. We had a great conversation about knife geometry (for over an hour), I got to handle the prototype BK21 (khukuri... which I WILL own one), and a BK5. My initial impression, upon looks alone, was it is something in between a cook's knife, and a fighting knife. When I got it in my hand I thought, "this thing is a monster that feels like a feather." I couldn't get over how well balanced it was, and how "thin" it felt. After that I knew I'd have one, and that I'd feel the same way about the 15, so I now have both. I must say that the only reason these knives are not selling (aside from the fact that most only know how to chop and baton) is people are not able to get these blades in hand. If you hold one chances are you'll buy one, or be convinced to get it later. I couldn't be happier with these blades.

-Dexwithers, those pics are great. That is exactly the same reason I got the 15... food prep, and consumption.

The 5 has not gone anywhere, it's still right next to me!
I still have the smooth finish on it, but I stripped the 15 tonight.

I just had to.

MmmHmm, mo-betta.

I wasn't sure what to do with my 15 that I impulse bought when that sale came around. Now I know. Nicely done!
I am in the process of getting a 16, and trying to decide between a 14 or a 24. But that screaming deal on the 15 unexpectedly made it my first Becker!

Tangleddiver,

Nice work!

I really like the contrast between the brown handle, black ricasso, and bare steel blade,

My 5 arrived today, amazing job, lighter than I had thought it'd be but still pretty rugged!

Now, I've seen the vids of them thinning the edge out as well as making it convex, but man, this thing is already pretty thin !

What's the stuff you used to remove the coating on your BK15? as I think that would be pretty handy to get that rough texture off that blade.

G2

The old Becker coating (the stuff found on the USMC, etc) came off easily with common paint stripper. From what I hear the new coating is much the same.

The new coating will come off the paint stripper, but it takes a bit more time and work. Usually I will strip what I can, recoat whatever I couldn't get off, then strip again. Then the speckles that are left get some steel wool, and I am g2g:-)
