is the benchmade vex as strong as a lil temp by spyderco

Hardly. IMHO the Lil'T even beats the Manix in toughness. But then the Lil'T was more than twice as expensive when it was still made.

Do any of you know this from experience with the vex. I have had the temp and it was the strongest ( the best) knife ive ever owned til i lost it. Just that the price and look of vex is appealing except its made in china land.

Well gosh, if you doubt our judgement, I know there are at least two people who enjoy destroying knives that float around these forums. I hear one of them is unemployed, maybe you could hire him to destroy the two knives in question and listen to his evaluation. It might be cheaper to take our word for it. Or since you owned a Lil'Temp, and you want a Vex, you could buy a Vex and give us your opinion of the matter at a later date. Another option would be to go to Benchmade and ask on their forum if the Vex is heavy duty. ;)

Let us see. You are asking whether a Chinese made, liner-locking folder compares to an American made, compression locking folder (the strongest one Spyderco has made to date)? Search feature! Nuff said!

well even the big fans at the benchmade website say its a throw away.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "throw away". It is what it is, a fairly cheap knife, with good materials, made in China for one of the biggest production knife manufacturers around. I'd personally go with a Byrd (Spyderco import) knife, but my guess is that they're both made in the same factory overseas anyway. I say use it! That's the only way you'll really know what kind of work it'll stand up to.

want a vex but is it it for heavy duty use like the temp

The Temp is a compression lock demonstrating it can withstand in excess of 250 pounds per inch of pressure. The Vex is a liner lock...I can guarantee you it wont do half, probably not a fourth.

The Temp is CPM-S30V...the Vex is a Chinese Steel comparable to some 440C.

By no means do they compare...by no means do the prices compare.

God damn stop knocking the Vex.... I own one and it's a great knife. Takes a nasty sharp edge, opens and closes smoothly, nice fit and finish, and has great materials like the g-10 handle.

Find a better built knife for under 40 bucks. You cant.

No one is "knocking" the Vex, at least that's not the impression I get from reading the thread. What they are stating is simply that it isn't in the same class as the Spyderco. That's not an insult and not a fault of the Vex, it's just stating the facts. As for being unable to find a better knife for the price, that's debatable. I don't doubt it's a good value, but half the money buys you a G-10 Meadowlark, which is an excellent knife.

Thats the "knocking" I was referring to. Along with alot of other people on the forum who say it's a bad knife when they have never handled it, or have "made in china-itis", or have the dumb crowd mentality who blindly dislike the knife because some of the custom and high end collector elitists on here say it's trash.

How does it work after heavy usage would be my question. The longevity of the knife is what I am most interested in. While fit and finish is great for a Chinese knife, it isn't a Spyderco nor a Benchmade Blue Class.

Lol. I don't go to the Benchmade website very often, so I don't know if they say it is a throw-away, but if they do and someone here reports they do, that isn't knocking it...that is simply reporting that the some of the biggest fans of Benchmade view it that way. and Yes, most people would consider people that actually post on a Manufacturer's company webforum to be pretty big fans.

Reread the thread; not one person said it is trash...simply doesn't compare. Big difference. If the "forum" has threads about people knocking the Vex this thread is hardly the place to address your grudge, best to take it to the threads where it occurs, we aren't responsible for other threads.

You're the only one here who has displayed immaturity in their posts. Not the best way to get your point across. I own a Vex, I like it quite a lot, and it's been my EDC since I did get it. I also own a Lil'Temperance, it simply outclasses the Vex in every way imaginable. That doesn't mean both aren't good knives, just different. The price difference reflects that clearly, you get what you pay for.

The fit and finish on my Vex handily trumps that of my Griptillian, go figure? lol.

P.S. damn double post...why I cant I put my thoughts together!
