Is the BM710 still the iconic knife it once was?

Mine found its way back into the rotation after a year or so off once i got it sharp again. Its still going strong and is beating out my spydies, but then again I'm a benchmade fan.

I love the simple elegance of the 710. Ive owned 4 of them including 2 in M390 so I guess that is a testament to how excellent the design is. However my 710 doesn't see much pocket time now with my para2 being carried most days. What I like about the 710 is its such a big knife for such a small package. Its long but its thin profile makes it essentially unnoticeable in pocket. My all time favorite folders are the para2, manix2, 710, and sage. Its certainly among some great company.

I have three: 710D2, 710HS, and 710-801. My favorite is my customized 710D2 with the BK finish stripped...here's a couple of pics of that knife:

awesome knife. I will say sometimes I am not happy with Benchmades edge from factory, but I could say the same with alot of companies. I spent hours putting a good edge on this one (whew ... damn D2). I'm ready to put it to some good work. As long as one is not afraid of sharpening re-curves it is a must have.

Iconic? Yes. But I've sold all mine and have moved on. Nothing against the 710. It's just that knife design matters a lot to me and the 710 still represents a 10 year old design to me. I could easily be unfair but the fact that it's a BM doesn't work in its favor either. Even if it is a good design, I have a lot of interest in what is coming out today and tomorrow. That is what keeps me primed for knives :D The last and only BM I've purchased in the past 3 years or more is the upcoming Knifeworks M390 AFCK special coming in June-ish. I'm looking forward to that one and I sure hope I'm not disappointed . . . again . . .

I doubt you will. I want one bad but I'm saving for a couple of high end folders but I wish I would have pre-ordered that one sometimes!

Isn't the whole idea behind "iconic" that the knife has been in the market for a long time? ;)

Do you think the Sharpmaker would do a good jobon a new D2 blade, provided i was ready to put in some time?

This thread is making me really want a 710... trying... not.. to reach... for my wallet... argh!

Feeling the itch? Me too. This is nit a cheap hobby but on the other hand when you know steel is in your blood that just means you are one if the family. :)

I am thinking that if you plan on using the Sharpmaker on a D2 blade and need to re-profile, you had better get a case...no, flat of beer. That job is going to take some time.

Yes indeed and honestly, I don't own any iconic knives anymore unless you consider the Para 2 a Para in general. :)
