Is the box important when selling used knives?

It certainly affects what kinds of package you can ship them in, and some knives don't really merit keeping the box forever, but it's good to keep them together

There used to be a boner here that would demand to know if it was the original zip-loc bag that Northwoods knives shipped in, even though that same zip-loc bag could be bought many places.

What a weirdo.

A branded box is different though and does make a difference to some, I prefer to have it.

I throw them away. The storage space is not worth the slight chance that I may sell it someday. Even if I do sell it the little bit extra $ would not be worth the trouble.

The custom knives I’ve bought came wrapped in plain paper in plain shipping boxes. Nothing special about the box whatsoever.

I like the box but it’s not necessary.
I’d much rather have the seller understand what LNIB means, because some don’t.

Depends on the knife. Something with more elaborate packaging and box candy (like a Sebenza with the cloth, wrench, grease and certificates) I would only pay top secondary market prices if it was all intact. A ZT or working grade Benchmade or Spyderco I would only be concerned about the condition of the knife itself. But that's me, depends on the buyer.

Personally I keep my boxes for myself but it's a bonus to have if I move a piece.

I think it depends of how used the knife is. If it’s very used and been sharpened a bunch, I can’t see the box making a difference. But a gently used knife would need a box.

I would say fairly important for the LNIB, and the lack of would come with a fair price reduction.
The more beat up the knife gets, the less important the box becomes.
It is only important to me, because it is important to others. If it lacks the box, I will likely get less if I sell it, and try to price my buying point accordingly. I will buy with or without a box - and much of what I have never came with a box from the maker.
