Is the Cold Steel Recon Scout a risky buy?

So your saying that a 5/16" thick carbon steel knife can't be batoned? while a 3/16" ESEE Junglas can be batoned with no problem

I said nothing of the sort....and I didnt even mention the Junglas.
Any knife can be batoned - even a SAK, should you choose to.
I merely said -and I repeat- that the RS would not be the knife that comes to mind for batoning (had I left my axe and/or folding saw at home).
I like the RS (and the Junglas) but just look at the configuration of the RS and where Youd be banging away on the knife.

I carry and use these daily and have since they were released...I would recommend it...Yes they are discontinued but not impossible to get .. The ones mentioned that broke was due to batoning at the tang, Simple solution is baton over the wood to be cut , Not at the tang...
