Is the Kershaw Forum just a complaint Forum?

so... now you're complaining, about people complaining? :p

seriously though, i know what you mean. there is no way that any company could ever make a detent or lockbar "perfect" for every user. some like them heavy, some like them light, and that's just the way it is going to be. blade centering is another one that kills me. as long as the knife opens and closes without rubbing the sides and locks up well, it absolutely does not matter if the blade is perfectly centered. come on guys!

Some of us speak up for ourselves when we are wronged....other just bend over and eat the it... lol
I think there is a difference between "wronged" and a minor problem like blade centering, or whatever. If it isn't broke, I can live with it. I use all of my knives and expect them to cut, not look perfect. I know I must be the minority with half the comments in other threads!

My son got upset once because he put a mark on the blade of one of my more expensive knives, he said sorry to me. I asked him what for? He explained. I told him he used it for what it was supposed to be used for, that's what happens when you use things for what they were meant to be used for, and there's no shame in that. The mark will be there forever to remind you of what you cut.

No news is good news. The only issues worth discussing are new developments (which are uncommon) and problems (which are more common). Otherwise, people generally go about their business. That's basically the nature of the beast when it comes to discussion forums.

Is it a complaint sub-forum? Pretty much.

That's not say that's bad, just typical. Certainly not what a manufacturer shoots for, and wants to spend time monitoring.

I believe the culture of a sub-forum can be changed, but it takes the support of the core members to make that happen. Threads like this can be instrumental in fostering a new environment. "Happy Thoughts" are a awesome concept, but only the followers can carry out the vision. Without that support it's a sappy tag line.

I'm personally not excited to come on these forums everyday. It feels like a when, why, and it's not right platform. Some unity, but negative at it's core.

Perhaps it will get better, perhaps not.

As of today, I feel Kai USA has supported a very small minority of our customers here with inside knowledge, sneak peeks, an abundance of giveaways, and daily communication. Not sure what more we can do to show we care or make things more positive.

Oh yea, I'm on a family vacation, just for some positive vibes...

Don't forget about the wide variety of Kershaw and ZT knives provided to the site for passarounds. There are currently 7 different ZT knives out on passarounds with a new Kershaw passaround starting soon. The number of appreciative BF members grows with every passaround.

Nice pics too...enjoy the vacation. :)

I think the forum has many purposes. To gloat about knives we've bought, to recommend knives (or ask for reccomendations), review purposes, Q&A, modifications, bugging mods about upcoming products :) and venting. I think I've been guilty of most if not all of those.

I've had very few negative experiences with Kershaw and all of them were handled above and beyond me expectations. I believe balance is healthy. With that said, the balance should be heavily weighted towards the positive side.

Enjoy your vacation TW.

I'm here to find new friends. :D I won't rest until Thomas W. is that new friend.

My love for Kershaw/ZT is pretty strong, as is my support. A quick look in my drawer and closet will show that. I try not to complain, but since the wife won't listen anymore, who else do I have?

Don't really see a reason why people should HAVE to give positive criticism if they don't like the product they received.

"Hey, I bought this Bradley Alias that is so poorly made that it doesn't even function as a knife, closes on my hand, and makes a lousy paperweight, but on the plus side it came in a little faux-silk baggy which is awesome."

That's kind of a stupid thing to expect everyone to do. If folks have some kind of concern / problem / whatever, it would seem to me that this is a pretty good place to talk about it. Some cases should probably be brought to the attention of Kershaw's warranty department before being broadcasted over the internet, but that's a different matter...

The people whining here aren't having knives close on their hand though.

It goes a little something like this:

"I got this knife, and after flicking it opened and closed 10000 times, I noticed that if I put it in a vice and grab the tip with pliers, I can make the blade wiggle 1/64". This is TOTALLY unacceptable, and unless I get free knives and a back rub, I'm going to tell everyone on Facebook what a terrible company Kershaw is."

Those complaints come up often, and sometimes they become an interesting show were the Mods end up shutting it down and the OP amazes us all with their stupidity.

It seems more like a lot of whining most of the time or people being drama queens.

I would like to see the kershaw forum to be more like some of the other sub-forums out there (bekerheads)

What are these other sub-forums of which you speak? [85% of my posts are here] I guess I should get out (of this sub-forum.. and in general) more.. but even with all the whining going on here, the core group here are some of the best people around!

No, you're right - I know most of the whiners in question don't really have that much reason to whine. I was mostly just being hyperbolic.

Because negative is lame, and yes I know that cramps a whole bunch of peeps style.

Wait, what if every time someone gives negative feedback, they just accompany with it with some smooth tunes? Yknow, to offset the negative waves.

It is very "up beat" over at Becker.

It is easier to be that way when you don't make folding knives. Over there people just gripe about the cheap blade coating and sheaths that dull the blade. And everyone just gets over it and goes on.

Here everyone just piles on, until someone has their feeling hurt. Problems will happen with most everything. But Kershaw /ZT should get a chance to fix before it gets aired here. Thomas posted a sticky at the top of the forum page on how to get service. If we all did that this would be much happier and peaceful place.

Some people just can't be pleased though. A 0560 that seamed perfect in every way to me had multiple "problems" and was sent in for warranty repair.

Use them!!!! Then if you ever have a problem, way down the road, you are backed by the warranty that is the best in the business.

Presz got it, I was kind of thinking of the Axe and the outdoor sub-forums also. The last two are of a different nature all together, like comparing a zing to a 0100. But still a good model of a fun sub and a positive attitude in general.
