Is the Kershaw Forum just a complaint Forum?

If they weren't complaining someone would accuse them of sucking up. /sarcasm. As long as it opens all the way, closes all the way and is sharp enough to cut stuff I'm happy. And so far I've been happy with all of my Kershaw and Zero Tolerance knives. Very happy.

Thomas what are you doing on here if your on vacation!? Git go on git! No need to be working or checking in here, We will still be here when you get back... I promise!;)

On vacation and still getting on the forums. One thing I always like about vacation is being disconnected. Pull the plug, we will hold down the fort here for a few days... unless its a long vacation, then check in maybe once or twice.

Is it a complaint sub-forum? Pretty much.

That's not say that's bad, just typical. Certainly not what a manufacturer shoots for, and wants to spend time monitoring.

I believe the culture of a sub-forum can be changed, but it takes the support of the core members to make that happen. Threads like this can be instrumental in fostering a new environment. "Happy Thoughts" are a awesome concept, but only the followers can carry out the vision. Without that support it's a sappy tag line.

I'm personally not excited to come on these forums everyday. It feels like a when, why, and it's not right platform. Some unity, but negative at it's core.

Perhaps it will get better, perhaps not.

As of today, I feel Kai USA has supported a very small minority of our customers here with inside knowledge, sneak peeks, an abundance of giveaways, and daily communication. Not sure what more we can do to show we care or make things more positive.

I have some unsolicited advice for you:

People are going to complain. Most readers are going to see the whiners for what they are and not take things too seriously.

When a KAI representative (that's you Thomas... ...but I'm trying not to say "you", avoiding confrontation and all) rushes to the defense of their product every time someone posts a complaint it ads to, or even creates, a confrontational environment. This goes double when a KAI representative conveys an arrogant attitude... ...for example your, "I guess we don't know our own business, why don't you tell me about the strength of titanium" type comments. Personally I find it very unprofessional for a company representative to take such an attitude. I'm sure you at KAI are very knowledgeable and you put out a great product but quit picking fights with your customers even if they are idiots. The rest of us know they're idiots, maybe you could help educate instead of getting defensive.

I recently broke down and got a 0561, it's a great knife and it's been in my pocket since the day it arrived, not perfect but close. I've got to say that the negative confrontational vibe of ZT turned me off for a long time. Things like Thomas sending a 0550 to a man who's military son lost his makes a difference in how people perceive the company. Making snooty comments about how much more you know also makes a difference.

To sum up, and I'm dead serious, please don't take this the wrong way: Go the Spyderco forum, search Sal's posts. Become more Sal like... ....have your wife embroider a WWSD to hang on the wall above your computer. Enjoy your vacation.

I don't see any rushing. I haven't seen any arrogance that wasn't justified. I think it's refreshing to have someone tell it like it is instead of sugar coated bull$#!%. I haven't seen anyone pick a fight either. The mods of this forum seem to go well out of their way and even when they do they get trampled on. SO I can see what has been said as justified, especially when it is in a thread like this one, I mean look at the title. I laugh alot by some of the things people post on here and then when the mods try to help out they get another prick to come in and not read the post they just left and continue to groan when the subject at hand was taken care of. IN my opinion they are well within their rights in their own subforum to do what they please when they please. Don't see any nose rubbing of how much more anyone knows than the other guy either.

Thomas is Thomas he's a pretty cool cat, I would never ever ask him to be someone else or act like someone he is not. He does a damn good job the way he has been doing it. If you wish to be a Debby Downer, and don't like it, Go somewhere you do like it. The rest of us will carry on.

There is only one way to take that post, and it's not the way you think.

^

Well said, Thomas handles many situations surprisingly well, as do all of the other Kershaw mods.

Don't rush to defense of product every time.

Don't create a confrontational environment...

Don't be unprofessional.

No attitude...

Give stuff away...

No snooty comments...

Don't take this the wrong way...

Search Spyderco forum...

Be like Sal...

WWSD...

Boy, all this complaining on the forum turns out is my fault...my bad.

I'll go enjoy my vacation now...

Every representative of Kershaw I have come across have all been extremely helpful and curtious. I for one appreciate all that they do for us and Thomas is at the top of that list. I feel that post was uncalled for. It is very ungrateful to attack those who go out of their way and do so much for us. I mean jeez the man is on vacation and still checking the forums. I can't speak for anyone else but I would like to personally thank you Thomas for all that you do for us.
