Is the PM2 too perfect?

There is more than one way to close compression lock - thumb on lock, index on hole. No shifting. Most close liner lock by turning the knife upside down. Isn't that shifting grip?

I don't care, just trying to understand your reasoning.

Idiosyncrasy, I guess. I always used my right index finger to pull the compression lock, and it seems like I am turning the knife away from me to do this (really just placing the knife vertically, edge down).

With the frame lock, I do shift my hand, but it turns the knife blade up, which seems more natural as I close the blade. Dunno, the compression lock is fun to play with, but the frame and liner locks just seem more intuitive.

The Para2 is a nice knife. The digicam G10 is my fave G10 variant.

But overall I def do not feel the passion for it that others do. It's just alright. I could take it or leave it.

I much prefer the Yo2 and Ti Military.

You gotta think safety first and do the same as you do with your framelock. Rotate your hand with pm2 in it so it lays in your hand and is not going to fall out. Pinch the lock and close it. I twist it in position with my middle finger while doing the above mentioned and index finger finds the compression lock ez.

I have never warmed up to the Para as well. First problem - It is not a Military; Second problem - two out of the three of mine have sticking compression locks; Third problem - It is not a Military. I have really tried to warm up to my PM', but they still are looking for a problem to solve.

It was my first realy good knife in 2011 and I loved it. Plain jane black G10/S30V. Very good ergo, easy to operate, cut very well too, but I became a little bit bored with it after two months of EDC and constant flicking;) Wanted better steel and some color. So I sold it and get one of blue M390. Love the steel and colour. Enjoy it for six months and sold it anyway. It was not a very good piece. It has some side blade play, and also centering on blade was off. There is the famous bushing, so I can't fix it with adjustable pivot ;( Also both examples had a lock stick. I hate it. You have to push harder on the lock to close the knife and then there's the click sound when it "unstick". I tried pencil and Sharpie, but it helps only for a short period of time. It always become to stick again. It's worse when you flick the blade open. When I opened it slow it doesn't stick that much, but it bugs me anyway. I decided never buy a PM2 again.
After 3 years and 10 different Spyderco knives I broke my decision. Wanted the S110V, but it was hard to get. It was new and hot. I was waiting 3 months on preorder, then I cancelled it and get one black S30V again. As you can guess it was all the same story again. First love and joy to flick and carry. After four months I was bored and can't live with the lock stick anymore:(
What is the point of the story. PM2 is great knife, but it's not perfect. No knife actually is. For me the biggest drawbacks are tendency to lock stick and blade to handle ratio. There is a lot of good. Ergonomics, lightweight, four position clip, it's nice to flick, slice very good, many different steels and colors options...

I've owned about 6 different variants of the PM2 and I've sold them all. That being said however, Id buy another. I too have had the dreaded lock stick issue on both S110V models I had and broke the tip on another (cutting a plastic band on a pallet). It is a great knife if it functions the way its supposed to and it slices great, is pretty light for its size, ergos are fantastic and its a great time passer too (open/close). Its just not great for heavy duty work like I need at my job (warehouse) which is why they went away. I own 3 Manix's now and I've had 0 issues with them, the lock is great and the tip is a bit stronger also.

Agreed. The lock stick is my number one complaint. The first S30v model I owned had some lock stick, not bad, but enough to be annoying. I sold it off eventually. I ended up buying 3 or 4 of the Cruwear sprints before I finally got one that didn't have it. Bought 2 of the M390 sprints and both of them had it...just learned to live with it. I wonder if they ever move to the stepped stopped pin like the Military maybe that will eliminate the issue?

In any case, it's still a great knife with amazing ergos. And super fun to flick!

It could be improved but it is pretty good as it is. I have 5 of them in my EDC rotation and they have pushed out almost all of the other knives.

It's probably my perfect knife when a low ride pocket clip is added but I still rotate other knives. If I whipped out a Para 2 at the hospital I work at I'd probably get get canned sooner rather than later. Variety is fun.

I like the Para2. Own multiples. They are very well priced for what you get, one of the top performance oriented production folders made.

Lock stick will go away with use.

I, too, would prefer my PM2 with sharpened edge all the way to the handle. I use mine at work and I never use the finger choil, not once. The handle is great without the choil. So it isn't "perfect" for me, but it beats everything else I've tried. I don't desire a flipper, just more edge.
Here, here!

I think the para 2 is great, but the military is where it's at for me. Now when I carry anything else, I'm like hmm this is kinda little

Just like FanBoy86 I prefer Manix 2. Especially S110V in G10 with skeletonized liners. Is almost as light as Paramilitary 2, but feel more heft and strong in the hand. Also blade is lower to handle, almost like a wharncliffe with some belly. Ergonomically is even better for my hand and lock have zero lock stick.

+1. I like the PM2, but I love my S110V Manix 2. I prefer the ergos, the action, the blade shape, the tip, etc. Different strokes...
