I have been looking for an EDC that would be good in both urban and wilderness environments. I was looking at the Benchmade Griptilian With the thum stud. But then I came across the Doug Ritter Griptillian RKT. I Like doug Ritters writings and carry one of his pocket survival kits in the field. But with the standard Griptilian being between 60-80$ and the Ritter model Pricing around 115$ the price differance is substantial. I just dont know if its worth it. I know that the knife got a favorable write up in Tacticak Knives. This knife also only seems available through one distributor and this may explain the price.

Does anyone know anything about this knife or where else I may get one for less??

I appreciate any help.

I had one and loved it. Used it for along time and finally lost it.

I've been without it for almost a year. It's hard to spend that much on a knife for me but I liked it so much I just bought a used/new in box, one with M2 steel.

I have never used the regular Griptilian so I can't comment if it is worth the difference.

I can say for me it was worth the money. I love the shape of the blade.

I have the M2 and S30V versions and love both. Part of the reason I like them over the standard Grip is the blade shape.

Cabellas has a pretty nice mini grip in D-2 if you like that steel. I have one in each kind for a set: Cabellas D-2, Ritter M2, Ritter S30V, Benchmade 154cm, and benchmade 440c.

My favorite? The M2 Ritter. JL

All of the Grips are good knives with good steel. The older ones had 440C, then it was upgraded to 154CM. Cabelas has the D2 blades and the Ritters have S30V and a few have M2. As for the price difference it just dependes what steel you want, if you are into different steels or blade shapes.
I have had all but the M2 and like the 154CM blades just as well as the others. My current Grip is a 555 with the oval hole, great EDC knife.

I can only speak for the Ritter Grip as I don't have the Griptilian.
However, I think it's a fantastic piece of cutlery. It's worth the money for me.
If I could choose, though, I'd go for the Mini Ritter Grip, which is more the right size for my wants and needs.
Of course I have that one too... :D

I would go for the Ritter Mini as well. I like the deep belly blade and if I were getting one today would get the S30V ( I have a couple of the M2 Ritters). Steven

Assuming it's not going to break your bank account, I think it's worth the money. I have the Large Ritter Grip and a 551. I love both, but I can get the Ritter Grip sharper and it holds its edge longer. I also really like the blade shape. But if it's that big of a difference on your wallet, you can't go wrong with a 551 or 550.

For the people saying they like the blade shape what type of uses does a shape like that excel in?

I'm currently saving up my pocket change (will hopefully have enough come springtime) to buy a 550 because i like the sheepsfoot design but am curious on the advantages of different blade types.

I have the 550, full size RSK and mini RSK. The RSKs are certainly worth it to me. A better blade shape, a thinner edge and higher grind make it a better cutter and worker.

Lucky,
That broad blade with flat grind is a great slicer -- either S30V or M2 (if you can find M2) would be fine. I have both and while I prefer the M2 for edge holding, in a humid environment I'll go with S30V. That said, the Cabella Griptilian in D2 is a great alternative.

I don't know how the standard ones are ground, but I like my M2 Ritter so much because it is thin behind the edge~.018"

Big brown dropped an S30V model off at my house today, so when I get home from work I hope to find that it IS indeed worth the extra cash... :)

The wider blade is very good at spreading peanut butter!

It also allows the high grind people have mentioned so that there is less resistance when slicing (think of a Corvette vs. a minivan). I also think it provides more of an upper edge for grasping between the palm and fingers when necessary.

My Rittergrips are my favorite knives, bar none. I have the mini and fullsize in S30V, the fullsize in M2, and the new fixed S30V Rittergrip. I really like the looks of the handle on the fixed Rittergrip. I'm not sure of the technicalities of how they did it, but it looks really nice and provides grip without being too harsh.

I've been thinking about getting my wife a yellow mini for Christmas ... she loves my mini Rittergrip. Shhh, don't tell her.

Ive got the cabela D-2 551 . Had it for a couple months now an love it . Seems to hold a very good edge . :)

Wow, I don't usually get to see the Ritter Grip next to the standard 440c model. I think the Ritter blade grind and shape is way better than the thumbstud model drop point! The second one down is my favorite in your picture.
