im on the fence about the sar 6.was thinking about getting one today and changed my mind a couple of times.i had a couple of sar 4's and ended up selling them because of the little choil and rather large handle for the blade size.is the 6 better balanced?how does the choil feel?does the blade taper nicely towards the tip or is the tip blunt?please give me your honest opinion,,,should i get one?? yes or no.

unless you're just crazy about the shape/size, or you just don't like something about the BOSS Jacks, I don't see the draw (though, I imagine it's different for the collectors...).

it's not that it's terribly overpriced, but it's so similar to the BOSS Jack and so many of them are out there at good prices, that I really don't get the timing of this release.

YMMV.

;)

there was quite a large release of five-six inchers within the last couple months including the urban grudge, sar-6. boss jack....imo its the most useful overall size, but it is odd timing for it

To me, Basic 7 is the king in this category.

And I agree, for a user, Boss Jack is a better bang for a buck at the moment. Not to mention the choices with choil options.
However I wouldn't be surprised if the demand for BJs, as a better priced alternative to Sar 6, starts driving the price up.

Boss Jacks seem to be undervalued at the moment.

I just cant justify the price at the moment - also not sure what real gap it fills in my collection - have a Tank Buster and SARSquatch that I love...

If they released em with tan canvas at $50 less then maybe...

Satin BJs are going between $330-360 at the moment. Very close in price to the SAR6, but the SAR6 is a better looking blade IMO. The handle has a much nicer feel too!

Never handled the Boss Jack. SAR 4 was a bust for me. I bought a LE and sold it. Just didn't fit for me. Like you said, too much handle in comparison to the blade length and the blade was to tall for my tastes in a 4" knife. The SAR 3, I have two of them and intend to keep em.
Just got a SAR 6 and I like it.
First class fit and finish.
Wicked wicked sharp.
The balance point is ever so slightly to the back side of the first tubular handle fastener hole (headed toward the second tube and away from the choil).
I think the tip tapers nicely toward a decent point.
Choil: I wish it did not have it. The thumb grooves on the top of the knife are totally out of thumb reach when you choke up. If those grooves were extended to come into play when you choke up then I would reconsider this point but I think this would be a better design without the choil.
Everyone likes something different. Its one hell of a knife, I am not criticizing it in any way, and am going to keep it. Good purchase in my opinion. I have already used it too so the safe queen it is not.

To some yes to others no. The question of an items value is different for each person. Right now I think that gold is overvalued, while infi is a better buy. If it suits you buy it, if you feel that your money is best spent elsewhere then so be it. Thats the great thing about our somewhat free market economy, we have a lot of choices on ways to spend our money. Good luck!

If you liked the idea of the boss jack but wanted a bigger handle and a heavier overall knife, the sar6 would be a good option, without being as big as the sfno.

My SAR-8 was pricey but is an amazing knife...I dont own a 6, 4 or 3....but I already have the best 5-6 incher...the SS5LE!:D

Point is I love the handle/blade ratio on the 8 and think it was worth it...if not I might have sold it...I think it was average Busse pricing though, nothing more (meaning compared to other satins, it was priced accordingly)

This is an interesting observation. Looking at the pictures of the knife I can see it now.

I would love one, But the timing is just wrong for my bank ballance.:(

Wish it was released 6 weeks ago or in 6 weeks time.

actually, I think LVC's comment nails it. And my comments re price ware based on the LE $, so the gap is less than I was thinking.

Boss Jack and SAR 6 are two different animals.

I sold my BJ, I'll keep my SAR.

I agree. I think the BJ is less stout, is shorter overall and less belly. Its closer to a fighter than a camp knife. The 6 has the weight and handle length to be a chopper if need be, a good hunter and a great camp knife.

I think if you compare it to an ASH considering its size and not to mention its completely melted smooth the price is not too far off. What did all the LE ASH1s go for?

Plus the more knives you buy, the smaller the nitch will be to fill anyway. So maybe its not a knife for someone with a squatch or a TB already but eventually with an Infi addiction you're bound to have redundancy. I sold my Skinny to make room for the sar6.

I say go for it. The price of the SEs seems decent for a knife of its size and finish.

The force is strong with you. :D

You know, if we see doublecut with tan or blck canvas I will give in... Seems rather likely... I hope.

It's not worth it for me. I like the design, and wouldn't mind owning one, but it would never see any use due to the size. Everytime I buy a knife in the 6" range it never gets used because it gets lost in the middle of the size ranges I use. It's illegal to conceal 5"+ blades in my state, so it wouldn't get every day use, and when I carry something on my belt in the woods I prefer a longer blade, 8"+.

So at that price, for the little use I would get out of it, it's not worth the price for me.
