is the sar 6 worth the price??

If you don't hold one you just don't know. +1 orange & black. I can't stop fondling it.

i like it and for the extra work involved i predict it will be a classic. i have layed several, err i have laid it on top of every knife of it's class i own and if i were sober i would have been able to find my camera to take pictures but i can't find it cause i can't find film for the stupid thing.

the Sar-6 is awesome and like others have said make a great companion to the Sar-3

it's handle is a great cross between the classic straight and the sought after ergo.

mikeh might chime in here as i'm certain he has laid many... errr he has laid his new S6 on top of his ergo outlaw and sees that the 6 is the same except with a 1/2 inch longer blade.

it matches the ash-1 (if you don't have one you don't know what you are missing especially in the skinyy ash model my personal fav) except it has a blade of less height and is well rounded and finished in the new generation styll which you younger porkers will like.

which reminds me of that old saying

"why run down the hill for just one when we can walk down and pork them all up"

me... i need a pair and a spare... imho

Yes it is worth it, maybe not if you just collect them, but from the point of view of a guy who seriously uses his knives yes it is absolutely the best Busse i have used and i own quite a few.

I agree. I think the BJ is less stout, is shorter overall and less belly. Its closer to a fighter than a camp knife. The 6 has the weight and handle length to be a chopper if need be, a good hunter and a great camp knife.

I can see that. I think that is why I like my Boss Jack Proto so much, I have several choppers / camp knives but very few sleek fighters.

It is pretty much my favorite Busse that I own (but that's hard to say), the "cool" factor is very high.

Here is a crappy photo of mine. I'm going to try to take some better pictures of my knives for posting (and get a nice sheath for this one)...

from the comparison thread:

If you liked the idea of the boss jack but wanted a bigger handle and a heavier overall knife, the sar6 would be a good option, without being as big as the sfno.

LVC hit it on the head, I don't own a BJ but most know of my SFNO addiction :D

I like the SAR6 and anyone one who likes the SFNO/ASH1 size knife will like it.
I think it will be a great user knife. no frills all business!! I like my Blk g10 SAR6 very much!!

If my SFNOS are a vette the SAR6 is a Volvo(Boxy but damn good)! :D:thumbup:

i wouldn't compare the SAR6 to my tankbuster...way too different!

J Ps I still would take my SFNO as my "one knife" if the SHTF in the world but the SAR6 is a knife I wouldn't mind owning more than one of!

Personally I wouldn't trade the boss jack for the sar6. I like the lack of a choil/extended edge, the handle, and the overall compactness of the boss jack better. It provides more knife in less space.

But, though I personally didn't like the sar series handles, I totally understand why someone would. It gives a positive grip similar to the ergo handles, in that it forces your hand to stay in one place and keeps the knife secure and free from rotation or slipping forward or back. If you have big hands and wa a really secure handle, the sar series handles are in my experience the most secure handle you can get without going ergo. Having a range of sizes (3,4,6,8) gives an excellent range for those who want that.

Think of trying to pry a door open by turning the knife instead of prying: which handles are mostly likely to allow you to do that? sar and ergo. Every other handle is round and doesn't give as much rotational positive feedback or control.

Obviously your not going to be prying a door open like that, but it does give you the option of forcing the edge to go where you want it to go and it keeps the media from torquing the blade in your hand like can happy with hard plastics.

My SAR 6 will have to push my Skinny ASH aside every now and then to see any action. Skinny ASH loves a beatin'. The Tequila Sunrise G-10 is going to want to be seen though so I'll find something for it to do and get some attention. A little pricey? Maybe, but the SAR 6 has a lot of finishing procedures absent on the Skinny ASH.

For some reason the large choil on the SAR8 and SAR6 looks strange to me. I like my SAR4, but I'm going to have to feel up the SAR 6 & 8 at Knob Creek someday before I make up my mind on them. The SAR6 doesn't seem overpriced to me. That's a pretty good chunk of satin INFI, not to mention the nice handles.

Don't think the SE are too pricey for what you get. The LE yes, paying 100 bucks more for the LE is not worth it for me, but I am not a collector.

So I just ordered a SAR 6 SE yesterday :) And it will get a lot of use..

I am still waiting for the SAR 3-4-6-8 to be released in a CG version for the more budget minded folks.

I previously bought a spare SAR-4 to have it modded for a larger choil similar to the SAR-8 - great for choking up for closer or finer work. Then the BCS brought out the SAR-6, the perfect woods knife, at least for me, eliminating my need to mod my spare SAR-4! (no, this is NOT a request for offers on the SAR-4, tho' it may someday end up on the exchange.)

+1, I personally like the coated blades and smaller price tag for something I'm gonna use and beat on

Busse Combat could even do away with the meltdown treatment on the CG version of the SAR-3-4-6-8 to both lessen price and enable better ferro rod striking.

Hmm...

I envision a death chat started on this one.

IMHO, I'd go with a Skinny or .22 ASH variant, or even the BJ before the SAR 6. Of course, I may change my mind after I handle one. I've got a .22 ASH and a BJ that I really like, as well as my Stealth DSF, so I'm able to restrain myself right now on the SAR 6. Also, for me personally, I'm not a fan of the thumb serrations or the look or feel of the handle of the SAR series. I'm trying to warm up to my SAR 3, but in the end I think the BAD or the Cultie will take it's spot in the EDC rotation.

I like my satin blades but i'll have to agree with you on the coated CG blades especially the fero rod striking part. Although i'm not sure the fero rod would work with the coating. Which means satin i guess unless you scratched the coating off at the striking point. Hmm...

As much as I'd love to see them, I'm not too sure we will see one of these in CG anytime soon based on the SARs history (SAR5 excluded, of course :D)...

Its been, what, 2 years since the SAR4 was released and still have yet to see one in CG...?

I think they'd be a home run and Busse staple if they produced and kept the CG 3,4,6 and 8 as a regular, all-the-time offering...
