Is the Shaman a PM2 Killer?

That said, Spyderco's choosing to massively hike the price shortly after release is a huge turd in the Shaman's punchbowl, and had my videos come out *after* the price hike, I wouldn't have made that comment. The Shaman is a knife that most PM2 buyers should consider at $15 more, but for $45 more, it's harder to say "Oh just get a Shaman instead". Which the cynic in me thinks could be the justification for the price hike.
Yes, Nick, it turns out that at this point, you *do* have the power to alter markets. With great power comes great responsibility.

Actually I agree with few posts above. If you do not care about Ti and flippers, Shaman is ZT killer.
Now I m starting to get interested in a Shaman. I admire ZT build quality, but I don t like flipper only knives. And I prefer g10 to metal handles. If I can just find one at a decent price.

If you've held both, I'm really not sure how you can even call them similar other than the lock and manufacturer. I don't see the PM2 ship sinking for this knife.
Agree. PM2 is slimmer and lighter. Blade shape is much different, weight is different.

I loved my shaman, but it didn't beat out the PM2, for me.

Do the other people in the zumba class get alarmed? ;-)

No one, in my entire year + at this gym has ever commented or questioned the native in my pocket.

2 of my 6 day a week plan is just pusups, situps and a 3.5 mile jog in my neighborhood, so no one to get alarmed at there, either.

Never done zumba, how do you like it? ;-)

I love it, especially when wielding my ESEE machete; everyone gives me plenty of room. Totally solved that problem of people bumping into me and complaining that I wasn't "keeping up." :-)

I am not sure that this is a fair comparison. They do both share the blade steel and compression lock but there seem to be more differences that similarities. The differences that stick out the most are blade shape, price and weight. The Shaman is a tank that is 1.45 ounces or 39% heavier that the PM2. Ouch. I guess you are paying by the ounce.

The PM2 has been one of Spyderco's most popular knives for a long time and I don't think the Shaman will change that.

A lot of people have been complaining about the Shaman's price; it jumped 20% in price shortly after being introduced. To his credit, NickShabazz NickShabazz has 36,737 followers on youtube. When he told the world that the Shaman is fantastic, his large influence over the market pumped up demand, paving the way for Spyderco to hike the price. (Did all of Spyderco's knives go up 20%? If so, my theory is wrong. Also, I don't know what role ApostleP or Nutnfancy or the others had, with their own followers.) I don't blame Nick at all; his reviews always seem honest, and he is, to our knowledge, not compensated monetarily for his voice, but his words do have an impact. If Spyderco was a publicly traded company, it would be unethical for Nick to trade its stock, for this very reason.

All of Spyderco's knives went up by 8% or so, but the Shaman was given an additional, exceptional price hike. And although what you say is plausible, I guess, I'm very reluctant to take credit/blame for this. There are lots of loud jackasses on the internet with larger followings (Heck, NutNFancy has 700,000 more subscribers than I do!), so I'm not quite so full of myself to think that a large company's pricing decisions are based on my reviewing, or even on the sum of all YouTubers' thoughts. And, even in the bizarro world where my opinion did affect their decisions, they'd have to know that immediate price-hikes out of value territory are not the way to my heart.

And for the record, I'm not paid by any maker, just by YouTube revenues, Patreon, Amazon commissions on lights, etc, and then by KnifeNews for the KnifeGripes video series. I eat by virtue of my day job, YouTube just gives me the cash to take baths on new gear. And damnit, how had I never considered insider trading as a potential revenue stream! :D .

I didn't realize I was stepping into a silly fantasy play time conversation with you when I responded to your question. Lesson learned.

I don't see the competition between the Shaman and the PM2 but I do see a logical comparison between the Shaman and the Manix ll. same style blade, both have strong tips, both are for heavier duty use than the PM2.
I don't know which I would call a winner but if I hade no choice I would choose the Shaman, blade is a little bigger and the scales are much more comfortable. If I had to choose between Shaman and PM2 it would be the Shaman hands down

Why you no read the forums? Sal said it cost more to manufacturer than originally anticipated, or something along those lines.

Why I no read the forums, indeed. Do you have a URL to share where he talks about this? I'd like to read what he has to say.
