Is the Starmate still being made?

A plain edged Starmate in S30V would be irresistable to me too! :p

As far as the past version goes...it seems that John F Jensen still has some available in combination edge. ;)

A S30V Starmate would be great...

I would also love to see a ball lock on this baby...

cheers

Can Spyderco still build starmates? When you contract with a custom maker is it for a specific design which then belongs to Spyderco?
Just thought I'd ask before getting excited about the idea of an s30v starmate with tan g10 scales;-)>

Maybe we can convince Sal to do a run of PE S30V Starmates in the future! :D If it ever happens, I'll take one for sure...maybe two.

I have a 440V Starmate and it is a great design. For me the straight handle makes it a better folding hunting knife design than the Wegner. I am particularly pleased by how long the blade is relative to the handle length. I did not like low RC on the 440V blade. The first time I used it to clean rabbits I dinged the blade on some bones. What would work best for me is a harder blade of S30V, D2, BG42, or VG-10. I would actually prefer a slightly thinner blade.

PS, I am strickly a PE guy.

The Starmate was my first Spyderco and the most expensive knife I had bought back then. It´s a really good design and mine has perfect quality. Only thing is I would buy it plain now, not partially serrated. I really like this knife. I don´t edc it very often at the moment, but that´s because I find smaller knifes better for my daily uses now.

I thougt about buying a original Terzuola sometimes, but they are kinda expensive - and don´t have the Spyderhole!

Edgetrip is probably right. Much like the Wegner, the Starmate is probably a design owned by Terzuola, now, and can't be produced by Spyderco unless they get permission or buy the rights. But, that's just speculation....
