Is there a reason why the Delica can't have a finger choil for the index finger?

Well instead of a choil on a delica, I guess I'd be ok with a few sprint run versions of the Caly 3. That'd be ok.

I oppose it because to do the 50/50 you would lose more gripping area and I laugh at those who create a "need" to "choke up" on a 2.5 ounce knife with a 2.5 inch cutting edge. :D

And suggesting that Spyderco retool and incur tons of added expenses "just to let us decide"...like someone pointed out in another post in different words-this little brand subforum on one hobby discussion forum on the Internet does NOT represent "the market". We are a vocal and focused (but) minuscule section. Granted Spyderco is probably one of the most customer driven large brands out there but I always think it "cute" when someone suggests a new design and 10 or 12 people chime in with "I'd buy one!" or "I'd buy two!". "Okay, so there is 22 supposedly sold..."
The choil is not just for control, sometimes a little big knife has a choil and that grip is really the only one that works because otherwise the handle is too small. Examples would be the Squeak and Urban IMO. The Delica has a quite large handle and does not need a choil for a full grip for most. The Caly 3 IMO only feels right using the choil. It has a longer blade but shorter handle. Anyone that wants a choil in that size should really consider the Caly3.

Very pessimistic sounding on people having ideas, but remember that a lot of recent Spyderco's have been born from the forum's. Does Spyderco take every idea and run with it? No, that'd be bad business, but many ideas have come to fruition because someone threw out an idea. HAP40 (and maybe the burnt orange) as the next Seiki sprints were largely influenced by the forums. The GB2 is a direct result of feedback primarily from forum users on what was good and what could use improvement. The K2 mini is happening directly because someone asked for it and Sal and Farrid replied in the post. Turns out both thought the other party was not interested, but in fact they both were. It's happening because of one guy and his pie in the Sky idea.

You angry about it? Relax. Suggestions here on the forum aren't always way out in fantasy land.

Are you one of those puritanical elitists I keep hearing about? I feel you deliberately took more offence out of what I said than you should have. It was an honest question. And I don't know how wanting a choil on a 2.5 inch blade is funny. Does that not make sense? Smaller blades provide much finer detail work. I usually "choke up" on my SAKs and GECs without even thinking about it. I don't know why the idea is so foreign to you.

Anyway, sorry if I hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to get you upset.

In this forum or Spyderco's own forum this come up every few months, and gets answered. I didn't comment at all in the first few I ran across, then just chimed in with a "no choil" vote or short post in the next few... I just wanted to speak up for the "no" side more in the most recent (but alas-surely not the last) thread. And no-just because it keeps coming up doesn't mean it "must be needed" in my opinion. Knife nuts just wanting to share opinions and questions does not equal need, again in my opinion.

I'm all for a choil as long as it's not covered in nasty finger-shredding jimping. That or just bring back the FRN Calypso Jr!

Finger choil concept is one of those things that created preferences for different people. I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" or "better". We create different designs for different purposes and preferences.
