is there any blade coating that is good enough to not spoil the whole can of beans?

Don t all coatings wear off eventually?
Yep. How soon depends on usage.

Coatings may look nice and help protect the blade but, again, it's a trade off.

If you want a coated blade and want to use it for food prep then you accept that it will be harder clean.

Knives have been around for a 1000 years without coatings and survived just fine with minimal maintenance.

yeah ya know i like tactical
smf i also want black one now. i will open cans with other folders.

I am not a fan of coatings never have been. However, Busse's original coating system in the late 90's early 2000 was nearly impossible to remove. I hated it, so you would love it. It did not chip, and it took me hours to remove. He then moved on to a crinkle coating that was much easier to remove, thank god. But if I wanted a coating, that original coating would be it. It wore out but I never saw it chip.

here it is on one of my oldies. But I do prefer satin.

Many coatings durability is based on how well the blade is prepped and how the coating is applied. Material prep before coating is critical. Cerakote can be a great coating. Unfortunately the Cerakote on the 810 comes off very easy with normal use. It is a great knife, I have two, but the coating just does not hold up. There are a few threads in the Benchmade forum that attest to this. I have not used my Boron Nitrite coated blades hard enough to see how it holds up. I do know the Boron coating has a higher RC than the blade. The DLC coating/method that Kershaw uses has held up the best for me. Many times it looks like it is scratched but in every case it was residue left from what I was cutting, including steel cans. I do know that the Titanium coated edge on utility razors hold up much longer than a standard razor. The Ti coating also protects it from rust.

i was to open just one can of beans. so it russia, it is kitchen, and it is impossible to find can opener, and i don't wear any (at home) as that is what a cheap pants that are made in China are - there you have the right pocket for a knife, there you have the left pocket for a hi-cri flashlight, and there you have... nothing more,

Добрый день!

1) Get a can opener for your kitchen. Wash it often.
2) Get a Swiss Army Knife for your pocket. One with a can opener. Stainless and uncoated!
3) If you want to open a can with a knife...the only coating on the blade should be mineral oil. Inexpensive, food safe, wont go rancid, and its a laxative, so those canned beans wont "back up" your digestion.
