I've been carrying Victorinox knives since I was about 10. I'm now 23, but my little brothers (10 and 11) both now carry SAKs. The beauty of SAKs is that they are so utilitarian.

The service is incredible as well. My little bros recently found my old Swiss Tool which must have been buried in the garden for the best part of a decade. Unsurprisingly it was very rusty, but they sent it off to Switzerland with a little letter, and two weeks later Victorinox had sent me a brand new one absolutely free.

I have now owned several expensive Busse knives, and they are brilliant, but I still try to bear in mind that Ranulph Fiennes, the polar explorer, once said that 99% of all knife tasks can be accomplished with the humble SAK!

Gonna have to go home and put my tinker in my pocket. It has saved me quiet a few times.

I would love to carry more than my SAK Tinker, but it's not practical as an officer worker in sales. I may find a way to keep my BK14 on me, though I don't really need it for what I do.

You should look into larger gentlemen folders like Case knives. Spyderco has a really nice folder that I'm really digging. The Gayle Bradley Air. It's super light and super sharp and it has really good materials (Silver twill scales on titanium liners and a CPM M4 blade). It's also extremely light.

But when all is said and done SAKs are still super handy and provide more than enough blade for most of your cutting needs.

Years ago - before I tried to seek for the mysteries of knives in general - my only EDC (though I didn´t know the term) was a Vic Spartan. I used it out very hard and in the end I lost it during vacation. The Spartan is still one of my favorite Vics. I´ve carried many others, but the Spartan is still very special.

When I talk about "Years ago" I mean roundabout five years as my only pocketknife :)

In terms of carry comfort, convenience and utility, a SAK cannot be beat. QC is absolutely phenomenal for such a mass-produced product.

Big fan of Victorinox. I have a Vic Rambler on my keys and it's probably the only true every day carry knife I own. I'll also have an alox Pioneer riding shotgun maybe 90% of the time. I'll occasionally swap out for another slip-joint just for flavour, but the Pioneer/Rambler combo is just too ideal for me to do without for too long. This has been my set-up for the past while:

Honestly, I'd rather leave my Sebenza at home than go without a SAK! True story...

ETA: good thread, OP!

I do. Only a Pioneer most of the time.
Once in the while it will switch to my Griptilian or my Mini AK (Beater), but 95% of the time, its JUST the Pioneer.
In fact, the Pioneer is my favorite knife.
I've used it alot. Maybe even abused it, but theres no play in any of the tools, and I truly do think Id be OK with just that if left out in the woods.

I don't exclusively edc a sak. That being said my sak tinker is the only blade i have on me 100% of the time, i usually have one or two folders and the occasional fixed blade also. I also have to agree that there's hardly any task that a sak can't do, at least for me.
