I'm not convinced that eBay wants to stop the fakes, scam artists and liars. After all, they STILL get their 10% of the SCAM, and now that eBay owns PayPal, they get another 3.5% of the scam! For 13.5% of the take, I think eBay is willing to empower the scammers as much as they can and still get away with it.
One reason I say this is that I have reported obvious fakes, scams, and BLATANTLY misrepresented items dozens of times to eBay, and they almost never even make the seller remove the listing... One example was a seller who was selling a COMMON knife with a street price of about $20, one that did NOT have the blade steel listed on the box or the blade. It is commonly known that this knife ONLY COMES in 8Cr13Mov. The seller had it listed as RARE! and VG10 Blade Steel! Special Deal at only $59! I reported to eBay - never got a response and the listing stayed up until the seller sold MULTIPLE knives (the listing wasn't just for one, but one of those listed as something like "3 sold - 12 available"). I also "contacted the seller" and told them it was common knowledge that these are common $20 knives with 8Cr13Mov blade steel and that I had reported him to eBay. Never got a response from the seller either. Listing stayed up until all knives were sold - another few weeks!
This was NOT a case of a model that really was produced in VG10 in a "sprint run" or anything, either. It was a CRKT knife.
