Is this a genuine Battle Mistress?

Congratulations, I'm glad you got it - what a great first Busse!
The original SHBM is still one of my all-time favorite Busse knives; I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I'm shocked you got that beauty for $600 you need to immediately go buy a lottery ticket!!!!

I kid you not, I've seen them go for nearly 2x that when prices seemed to spike a few years ago. Users in good shape with sheaths were selling at the 1k mark.

Glad it stayed down here :) (no it is not mine either) as they are not often seen in this hemisphere.

Andy, Dicko....

while I commiserate with you two on a personal level that the Mistress stayed down under, there is a very scientific reason of global importance why the vast MAJORITY of INFI must remain in the Northern Hemisphere...

We must maintain the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth's axis to maintain the seasons during the planet's revolution about the Sun...

If the balance of INFI is significantly disturbed....well..... let's just not think of the consequences

I have the knife in my hands. First impressions - this is a knife! Weighty, solid. It just feels... Purposeful. What a chunk of steel!

Excellent, used condition. The person I purchased from was the original owner. It certainly looks that way. Used maybe once or twice & that's it. Minimal scuffing of the coating & no other discernable wear.

I have attached a couple of pictures of the swedge. I will take measurements & better pictures just as soon as I can. The swedge appears to be quite broad across the spine - 5/32' across & approximately the same height. I'll bust the calipers out on the weekend.

Please, what information do the Hogs require to ascertain the pedigree of this fine hunk of steel?20150526_204530.jpg20150526_204501.jpg

Here's the pertinent info.

Top to bottom, this is what they have been called, but the actual numbers are questionable. I've seen at least 8 of the 1 of 6's.

1 of 6
1 of 300

I absolutely agree! Thanks for posting the comparison photo.

For those who are not aware, the 1/300 SHBMs have a higher Rockwell C hardness (60-62 if I remember correctly - someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Folks that know more about these than I do would include "Cobalt", "Gravelface", "papathud" and probably others. For the price, you made a great score; I hope you get a lot of enjoyment with it!

Here's the pertinent info.

There are two more grinds not included in thatmguys picture. One was the fully sharpened swedge 1/300 style. Then there was the 10th mountain division swedge which was much longer than the 1/300 swedge. There is also a third design and that was the blades profile. The very first group of SHBM's were not perfectly flat ground. They were almost a convex grind from the spine and these blades had a super thick edge. These were pre-1/300's. I think they were not perfectly flat because Jerry was drunk when he hand ground them CIAO
