Is this a real Buck knife? If not, what is it?

An acquaintance sent me these pics recently. He forgot where he found them. The knife is really nice looking and comes in a Buck sheath, but the "USA Design 2008" stamped on the ricasso makes me doubt it is a true Buck. Nothing on the Buck site looks like this knife. Does anyone know this knife and where it can be obtained? Even if it is a cheapo knockoff, I'd still like to get it for the looks. Or does anyone know if there is a real quality knife that looks like this?

Thanks for your help!

The sheath is from Buck. However, that knife is not a Buck.

This the second one that I have seen just like it. The firt one was listed on the local auction site as a Buck Knife Co. knife. I sort of doubted that Buck would ever fix the scales with Phillips Head Screws, or distort the pommel when applying a rivet among many other things that are not typical of Buck quality. I wrote the seller and he assured me that it was a BUCK knife.

I wrote to Joe asking about it and got the following reply:

"Bob,
The knife is NOT a Buck. Neither is the sheath. My first impression of the sheath was that the leather looked funny. I took a closer look at the stamp and that cinched it for me. Counterfeit sheath for sure.
I sent a link to the auction to our legal guy.
Thanks for the heads up."

Are you sure its not a buck, dont the use phillips head screws alot on the handles:confused:? Thats not even a valid attempt at a forgery:barf: I think if you see it up close and personal it will look even worse, I dont think all the warts are visible.

I wasn't sure--that's why I asked Joe Houser. I have posted his reply above. I guess he is pretty sure that it isn't a Buck and that's good enough for me.

heck it is a fake!! and a bad one at that..
now the blade shape is ... well not to bad...
but the excruciation is so sloppy it hurts..

Fake or not, I like the look of it alot. It looks rugged and brutal like a combat knife should. I think the phillips head screws add to the effect. It looks cool. Where should one look for counterfeit knives like this?

I'm not really worried if it is a piece of junk as the toughest job any knife of mine has ever had to handle is whittling weenie skewers.

so thats all you plan on ever needing a knife for? i try to buy my knives with some capabilities even if all they ever do is pick my teeth:D

To me the knife looks cheap. But my main problem is that it is being sold as a Buck, which is fraudulent. I'd never knowingly buy from fraud. If he/she is lying about the make, what else will he/she lie about?

I like the design of the knife.......very good, clean lines. If I saw it in person and it looked and felt like a quality knife, I might buy it.

(But not in that fake sheath.)

My understanding was that they were trying to pass it off as a Buck knife. That would be false. To say a knife inspired by Buck or similar would be another thing entirely, even though it is clearly not a Buck design.

Probably has the heat treat of a chinese machete if any at all! But I bet it would sharpen very easily to a weinee stick chopping edge!

Yeah, there's actually no reason to assume that the steel is bad.

Could be excellent, no way to know unless you found the knife and tested it for edge-holding properties and toughness.

Lookswise, it's actually pretty good in my book......has a military look to it.

:)

The Phillips screws don't bother me......they just enhance the military look.

The lanyard hole in the pommel looks bad on one side, but that could just be camera angle......you really can't tell until you have a knife in hand.

The fake sheath is worthless, but the knife could be ok. I kind of like that style.

And making racial innuendos in the calm and supposedly intelligent discussion of a knife is innapropriate and unacceptable. I know it was just a lame attempt at humor, but it was NOT funny.

That's something we most certainly should avoid. The world is overflowing with hate already.

Sorry BG,didn't mean to offend.Hey if you're into knives with the military look I may still have an old fixed blade with some VC blood stains and rust on the blade.I'll have to look.
