Is This Damascus

Yup agreed and yes I have a good leather apron and I always wear all cotton cl9thing when working in the shop, long sleeve if I am doing any forging (I tend to do the japonese form of water forging a lot) and short sleves when grinding or sanding ect. My apron and safety glasses are always on me

I also recomend wearing gloves on both hands when hand welding (with flux). As a no glove on my hammer hand guy, the first fluxed billet I hand welded (san mai, a good place to start) launched a needle of hot borax into my hand. It isn’t debilitating, and it was just one more scar of hands that already had their fair share, but it hurt a fair bit and was a good lesson. Make sure your gloves make it to your sleves, and wear clothes and shoes (leather) you don't mind getting ruined.

Good point, joe. Another reason for wearing gloves on the hammer hand is that unless you forge with an extra long handle, thumb, index finger and knuckles start to burn towards the end of each welding heat.

Oh yeah how, could,I forget the gloves, oh yeah cause i dont use them when forging regularly since my best friend always would and then one day he forgot to put them on and picked something up that was really hot and the piece of metal burnt him so,badly to this day he cant open his hand all the way so i only wear them when i must(such as using drifts and punches) just so i dont get into the habit

I am 50/50 on a left hand glove. If I am working with short tongs or similar, i will toss one on. The bigger issue with gloves is that they need to be able to be thrown off if you pick up something hot. So you are stuck with mig gloves. And they seriously limit dexterity on some forging work.

Yup for sure and if u can't get them, off fast enough they end up doing more damage since the heat is trapped
