Is this honorable?

I have always thought that any religion or belief system that condones the hatred of any person or group of people, or in any way discriminates against them for what they say they believe... invalidates itself as being true, which would also hold true on an individual and personal level.

If he were to have said, "I hate Christianity" it would have been much different than saying, "I hate Christians".

I don’t like some of the things people say they believe,... but I don't “hate” the person for it, just disagree.

There’s been so much war and hatred over religion,… isn’t that self defeating?

Isn't it time we stop?

Well, I'm not ready to believe that his religion dictated his actions; I'm inclined to believe it was something about him as an individual. But again, he didn't offer much explanation, so I may never know why he said he feels that way.

In any case, now that I've been an official member of Bladeforums for a little over 12 hours :) , I've been able to browse a lot of the topics and discussions, and I think I'll like it a lot here. I've found a couple threads on forging that I'm learning a lot from, and I've gotten to drool over some VERY good looking hardware.

See y'all around.

"which would also hold true on an individual and personal level"

I strongly disagree with some of the things many of my closest friends, family and loved ones say they believe,... but I still believe in them, and always will.

Yes,... actions speak louder than words.

We are starting to drift close to the edge, guys.
Let's keep it on the topic of the knife in question.....and not on religious preferences.

I would never reach out to, much less give money to, an angry bigot.

Maybe that is what he needs to see from a "Christian"! How about reaching out or buying a product from a knife maker (Religion aside)?

Best advise is hang around here, make some friends and make your son a great knife! Good luck.

Yep, he is a NUT, they be some everywhere. Don't lose any sleep over it, sometime crap happens.

Maybe you dont wan't a knife blessed by a pagan god anyhow. Might actually be bad luck, like the Brady bunch idol.

No, he doesn't deserve anyone's money, much less from those who are the target of his hatred.
You can't bribe a leopard to change its spots.

So Makermook,

What tools do you have? I'm betting that if you can make a small utility knife you can make a larger knife just as easily. What do you need to accomplish the kind of knife that your son deserves? I've made a handful of Bowie sized knives for Marines that are currently stationed in Sangin, Afghanistan and I'd be happy to help you out any way I can. I know I'm a long way from Kentucky but I'll help any way I can.

How do you know that you haven't made a knife for a Muslim son fighting somewhere?
Ok, not knowingly then.

Do you have a questionnaire or an interview process to determine which of your clients belong to acceptable religions and which ones don't?
I am not going to ask, no.

Also, I'm curious in which country your "private asylum" is located? If it's the US, then there are thousands of Muslim US Soldiers, Marines, Seamen and Airmen, that are sons and daughters of someone, fighting for your freedoms as I right this. You wouldn't make a knife for them?
I live in the Netherlands. And the answer to your last question is still no. It is my personal belief that in the end, the loyalties of muslims are at best divided, and will in the end always weigh in on the side of their religion.
I do have quite a bit of experience in this matter.

Why exactly don't you like Muslims as a general rule? You do realize that your comment is the very definition of bigotry?
Bigotry is prejudice. My point of view is not based on prejudice but on experience.
I am not a bigot, far from it.

Your comments are a display of the very sentiments that started this thread.
I understand how it may come across that way. I hope I have explained myself.

OK, I'm moving this to "Around the Grinder". Lets keep it friendly and not get into too much more depth than it has already.

First off, welcome to BF Makermook.

Before I comment on this thread, I wish we'd all remembered that we're just hearing one version of a unsubstantiated story. I got sucked in too. Sometimes in an effort to lend a helping hand we react far too quickly.

This may be a long shot but it has happened before and I personally know someone who almost lost their job because of a misunderstanding.

You really have no idea who's on the other end of the shoestring typing away. My friend had a home-based business that was almost put under because of his 15yr old son.

I would follow up a few times to test the waters... if he holds true to his attitude, then walk away. You are among MANY fine makers here... we will help you in anyway we can, brother. We all share at least one belief... "Blades are Beautiful"... nuff said.

Rick,

As I reviewed this thread and noted that a follow up had been attempted, you were the first to parallel my thoughts of what in the world could have gone Tango Uniform with what seemed to be such a productive exchange.

I've been the victim of an online account hack and let me tell you, it can be the most eye opening experience you are likely to ever suffer.

A word to the wise: ASSIGN A UNIQUE PASSWORD FOR EVERY SINGLE ONLINE ACCOUNT YOU CREATE. If a hacker can crack one, that means they've got access to all of your online accounts if you've assigned a "favorite" or easily remembered series of characters & digits as your standard password and your computer's history is easily accessible, as is most often the case.

Back to Makermook: Do you have a phone number for the fella in question? We ALL have bad days. I've been personally involved in more than a few occasions where an email's misinterpretation of content, or tone has resulted in red faces all around.

The convenience of email/texting is without question, but there's a trade off to this wonderful world of virtual communication that we've come to see as a commonplace, even REQUIRED form of correspondence. The disadvantage is that you can't get a visual read on the human being with whom you're communicating.

I started to share some recent, personal observations on the subject that I'll post in a new thread, but we all really need to start giving less weight to words sent via email as compared to those heard directly from the mouth of the individual we wish to communicate with.

Makermook, if your story is on the up and up, I'm truly sorry for the disappointment you've experienced, especially given the circumstances. Call me at the number listed on my website and let's speak in person. I break for lunch approx 1200-0100 and will return any calls that I miss, as long as you supply a phone number. I'm up especially late this evening/morning monitoring a HT.

Sincerely,

Taylor

Taylor, I don't think Makermook can see your response or reply since the thread was moved. AtG is only available to Knifemaker/... members*. Good advice for those who can though.

ETA: *I think. The header still says Basic and up, but I think that's been changed.

Thanks for the heads up and the kind words Kiah,

I just checked back in after grabbing a shower and am too crispy to figure out how to ensure the OP can view my reply, but I'll sort it out in the all too quickly approaching morning.

Thanks to ALL the Gods/Goddesses/Plants/Aliens/Unicorns/Etc. for Coffee...

So, was this thread just moved to an area that the OP can't go to to respond?

This thread has got me thinking. All hail JR "Bob" Dobbs, the Patron SubGenius of SLACK belt grinding!
