Is this Large Sebenza I just purchased real, and original??

I would have passed on it too. Should have just bought one on the forums, where there is a level of relative trust.

$320 for used plain jane with a botched attempt to anodize the scales in not a good deal IMO

Hrmm... well I have already paid and he has shipped, but i have opportunity to return, so its all good, I will see what I get, here is his reply to my questions:

Thank you for your fast payment. I am actually selling this knife for a friend. He obtained it through his father who had recently passed away. The knife was purchased at a gun show so that is why I do not know about the finish. The man who bought this was was an avid collector so if the finish is not original I would be very surprised. The knife looks a lot better in person than in the pictures. I will have the knife mailed by no later than tomorrow morning 12/14/12. If you do not want the knife after inspection; return it within 48 hours and I will refund your money as long as the knife is in the same condition as received. If you look at the picture you can see the pull on the blade is blue which matches the finish; this gives me reason to believe the finish is original. Sorry about the picture quality but I think you will be pleased with this knife. I will send tracking info after I mail the knife.
Thank you, oslo1188, Ben

It's a good deal if you like the look!!! To each his own! If you don't like it so much you can find a local sandblaster and blast it back to normal for $10-$15.

Gotta respect that he will honor a return.

Definitely, and CRK already responded they have never made one like that, but it is authentic, just after market mod. I replied asking about getting a spa treatment to make it normal again (if I decide I want to do that), which I think will answer the warranty question. Once I get it, if it DOES look better than the pics, I may just keep it that way, I dunno :).

I have one modded Seb that I bought that is a total warranty voider, but I knew that going in...love it a lot...plus it's very likely never going to need to have warranty anyway, win-win!

I don't mind flamed ti...the pics might not be doing it justice.

Could be a lot nicer once you see it.

Good thing this ebayer honors a return policy.

Interesting find...always cool to find what other people like.

Lisa, is that the one with the engravings? Would love to see a pic of that again...

Yep, here's one that's a total warranty voider and I'm not going to complain, besides it'll out last any use I could put it through.
Here are a couple of shots of it:

scotchbrite it
If I decide to keep it, I would sandblast it. Between my WEP Pro Pack II, my Tormek T-7 grinder with Japanese wheel, my ultrasonic cleaner, my sand blasting setup, all in my refurbishing / reloading work station (I loves me some harbor freight :D), I buy well used blades and firearms all the time and refurbish them to like new before putting away in my collection. For this one though, if the work on the scales sucks, I will probably send it back if CRK warranty is void, UNLESS it is very easy (i.e. topical only) to refurbish and I am certain that the integrity of the metal hasn't been compromised. If that is the case, then I will have to think about whether I will have CRK do it, or maybe I will refinish the scales myself to be more polished, and then annodize it or something. I have been wanting an excuse to buy an anodizing kit, then my setup would be pretty much complete :D. Unfortunately my setup is buried given xmas ordering (man kids toys are big!), and I won't be able to walk after my surgery next week for 2 months, so I won't be able to get to refurbishing it until probably Feb :(:(.

Regardless, once I receive I will at least post GOOD pics of what I got and what CRK tells me.

OMG, that is BEAUTIFUL, great work, where was that done??!?! I think something just happened to me that is inappropriate to post on the forum :D. That reminds me of master engraved O/U shotguns worth 5 figures or more...

Indeed, it was engraved by master engraver Tim George....he does all the engraving by hand and he makes his own tools.
He use to engrave on guns and branched out.

Thanks so much, Mr. George will be receiving a call from me, I have a Blaser Luxus O/U for sporting clays competition and a Sebenza that would be SWEET to have matched engravings on! I am sure he isn't cheap, but my goodness, what work!!!

Also, here is the reply from CRK, looks like warranty still applies if they look at it and it hasn't been structurally damaged, CRK rocks :).

We should be able to refurbish the handle. The only time we won’t is if our chamfer lines and crisp edged have been rubbed off with polishing. We wouldn’t want to give something that didn’t have factory specs a factory coating/sandblasting.
In other news, your knife arrived at CRK today. I’ll let you know when the work is complete and we have it ready to ship back. Please let me know if you need anything before then. We are closed Friday but will be in the office Monday.
Have a good weekend.

I *just* checked my mail and got my Turnbull 2013 calendar, me thinks this is fate, check out the theme this year:

Too funny mcraft! The person who anodized those might have been the same person who ano'd your knife!

That is fate:p I love the case colored hardening look on firearms, and didn't even think of that when I first saw the knife.
