Is this para 2 a fake?

whatever you do keep the pictures of the knife you sent him. And take note any wear on any points. Too many times I have seen guys claim fake but actually swap the knife out for the POS they have. he may switch the clip or other hardware to make it look like your knife. Im not saying you are for sure being taken for a ride. Just saying its possible.

Indeed.

This is a real pm2, I own a fakie and there are some obvious giveaways,
First on the fake the pivot screw and the screw above it are the same torx bit, which this is not. the coating looks good and so do the g10 and all the other things you would look at.
If he wants to be 100% sure he has to take it apart and look at the pivot system i would say

I own more than 20 PM1 and PM2 knives - at least one of each model/variant. Those pictures look 100% authentic to me.

My advice is the same as everyone else's: The buyer is a flake or a scammer. Beware.

I carefully compared your pictures to all of my PM2s and I'm pretty sure it's legit...

2 things are bugging me a bit though....

1. The Spyder is definitely not in the same location as any of my PM2s, which all happen to match each other. Maybe that's still a normal production variation but not really sure.

2. The second thing that I wonder about is the box it came in. The gold spyder logo on the box is "hot stamping foil". I sell hot stamping foil to these box companies for making this sort of packaging. Here's where my job and one of my hobbies come together. The way they stamped that spyder is not consistent with the legit boxes I've seen in 2 subtle but telling ways. It IS however consistent with the boxes I've seen fakes come in. Of least importance, the location of the Spyder is lower on the box than usual (the "reversed out" section should be black and not show any white or grey). This can be just a set-up variation/error at the box company and is easily explainable or it is an indication that someone other than the authorized box company made this package. More concerning to me is the logo itself. Companies are CRAZY careful about the details of their logos on packaging (I know because I deal with those crazy people personally) and that picture seems to show an incorrect logo. The "reversed out" section at the top of Spyderco's logo has a distinguishable point facing upward making the "reverse out" look like an upside down "V" like this ^ . The box I see in the picture has the tiniest bump rather than a point and leaves the "reverse out" looking more like a triangle. This is exactly what I've seen on the boxes of fakes. This is not a manufacturing set-up issue at all. In order for this to happen a company would have to have ordered an etched or engraved metal die with that artwork in it. All of my customers would reject that die and have another one in house by the next day if the company logo was that incorrect. Combine this with the location of the stamping being a little off...and the location of the logo on the blade being a small question and It's got me wondering.....

Here's what the logo should look like...

That said, the jumping looks right on, the scales look good, the lanyard hole seems to be chamfered while most fakes are not. If it's not real it's damn good. I just can't say everything looks truly 100%. I hope I'm wrong and your knife turns out to be fully legit.

Here is his reasoning:
"The weighting on the blade is too big

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean.

the spyderco symbol is not exactly the same

The same as what?

the screws are not spyderco

They are.

the clip has the spyderco symbol in the wrong area on it

It doesn't.

fake g10 scales are contoured wrong

The patterning on the G10 varies. At one time I bought 2 of the M390 Para 2s from the same release and the G10 was very different between them.

That knife is most likely the real deal. Spyderco varies their production methods once in a while - CQI, as they say - and even if there were variations, it's not necessarily a warning sign.

I would be sure to film yourself opening the package to make sure he didn't send back a different knife or an empty box. A lot of his reasoning seems like he's reaching for any possible errors hoping one sticks, or building a paper trail for a false PayPal case.

Good luck!

That's exactly what I was thinking. There are so many scammers out there.

It's been mentioned before but one key is to check the jimping by the Spyde hole. On real PM2s it is angled to give more traction to your thumb going forward and that angle changes as it goes back towards the lock.
All the other tells apply to but for me the jimping is a primary indicator.

That's a real PM2.
